PROGRESS
Camp Chase Trail - Current PROGRESS

7/21/15:  The trail is now paved to Hall Road but not open yet between Galloway Road and Hall Road, which included the Norton Road crossing.   The bridge over I-270 was placed early on Monday April 27 but is not open to use yet.    We will let you know when both these trail segments are open for use and we hope to have a dedication ceremony.

Repair Note:  The heavy rains washed out the drainage system and pavement just west of Alton Road,  contractors are repairing it in hopes of a July 24 completion.  Until the trail is fully repaired, trail users can bypass the construction by using the grassy area to the South of the trail closure.

Additional Construction:  Work has begun west of N. Hague Ave. in the Hilltop/Valleyview area.  A retaining wall is being installed currently.

To access the open parts of the Trail, the best place to access the trail and park a motor vehicle is at the Trailhead in Battelle Darby Creek Metro Park 8465 Alkire Road, GIS: 39.893428, -83.215835 Google Maps Link

Photos of the Camp Chase Trail Construction are on the Facebook page along with the new highway bridge.   Camp Chase Trail Map (2 page pdf) showing the section open to Galloway:  MAP LINK  and visit TrailLink.com for the online map of Camp Chase Trail.

THE WHEATLAND FARM

Located in the Hilltop (near North Wheatland Avenue and West Broad Street) on the grounds of the former Columbus State Hospital, the Wheatland Farm is currently being built. By converting over five acres of vacant land into a flourishing urban farm, the Wheatland Farm will provide access to fresh produce to low-income residents and provide community engagement opportunities.

For more information or to become involved with Urban Farms of Central Ohio, please contact Sarah Lenkay  at  MidOhioFood Bank

Ohio to Erie Trail

Update from the Ohio to Erie Trail President:

From OTET President - we have some exciting projects in the works to help everyone who plans to do an adventure on the Ohio to Erie Trail. Several new way-finding signs have been installed. We already offer the OTET biking jersey and it is great looking. We have the set of four maps that cover the 300+ miles that can be ordered and a new pamphlet and a new OTET logo sticker will soon be available for people to remember their time on the Trail. A new web site is being developed that will be smart device compatible and very user friendly. It is to go live in September!

Always remember to check the website for Trail updates even when you purchase the maps! - Tom Moffitt

Ohio to Erie Trail - West Columbus Road Route: While the Camp Chase Trail is still being constructed, the Ohio to Erie Trail strives to provide a road route for people to connect from the current trail end in Galloway to the Scioto Greenway Trail Connector Bridge.  The 2012 printed map instructs people to use Broad Street, but as you may know, until October of 2016, West Broad Street will remain under major construction West of I-270. These conditions make an already challenging connection nearly impossible.  The leadership at the Ohio to Erie Trail is providing the following alternative route (Going from SW to NE approximately 9 miles):

Start: Camp Chase Trail end at Galloway Road

  • proceed North on Galloway Road

  • East on Hall Road [heavy traffic]

  • North on Norton Road

  • East on Sullivant Ave.

  • North on Georgesville Road [heavy traffic]

  • East on Sullivant Ave

  • North on Demorest Road where it joins the Westgate Bicycle Blvd  [Follows signs and sharrows]

  • Travel from S. Westgate to N. Westgate by crossing Broad St with a half block jog.

  • Continue on N. Westgate Ave where the Westgate Bicycle Blvd ends and becomes the Steele Ave Bicycle Blvd.

  • Proceed East on the Steele Ave Bicycle Blvd

  • North on Eureka Ave

  • East on Valleyview (which becomes Highland then Harper)

  • Finish:  McKinley Ave (Start to Finish is It is 9.17 miles)

Cross McKinley Ave and enter the Scioto Greenway trail via the Hilltop Connector Bridge, at the end of the connector bridge go LEFT at the fork to follow the Scioto Greenway Trail toward downtown where you connect to the Northbound Olentangy Trail at the Confluence (The Boathouse).
