Camp Creek Hike with the Southern Appalachian Plant Society
Friday, October 13th, 2017

Hike Leader:
Forest Ecologist Jess Riddle

Hike Location:  Watergauge Trail and Camp Creek, Rabun County

Outing Description: Camp Creek is a rugged and rich tributary of the Chattooga River. Our casual hike will take us through unusually diverse forests, down to the Chattooga River, and up Camp Creek. Doing this trip in the fall is a bit of an experiment, but the diversity of wildflowers in the spring promises good things for the fall. Regardless of the wildflowers, several species of trees approach record heights in this area, including white pines over 165 feet tall.

Hike Date:  Friday, October 13th, 2017

Meeting Time, Place and Directions:  We will meet at 10:00am at the Clayton Ingles (176 US-441, Clayton, GA 30525). As you face the store, we'll be gathering on the right side. We'll carpool to the hike location.

Distance and Difficulty
Two miles round trip and easy to moderate. The pace will be relaxed as we stop to talk about whatever catches our interest. However, the first half down to the river is moderately steep, and the second half is along an old roadbed with some saplings grown up in it. Trees may also be down from Hurricane Irma.

Duration of Hike: Four to five hours, including carpooling

Participant Limit: none

What to Bring and Wear: Lunch, plenty of water, rain gear, sturdy footwear. If allergic to bees/wasps, remember to bring your meds/epi-pen.

Cancellation: Participants will be notified if cancellation is required due to forecast of severe weather, etc.

Pet Policy: No pets, please

Family Safe Policy: Georgia ForestWatch outings are a smoke, alcohol and drug-free setting.
