CU hosts KMTA conference and competitions Nov. 1-4
The KMTA All-State Piano Ensemble performed on CU's campus in 2008.

Campbellsville University and the School of Music will host the 2014 Kentucky Music Teachers Association Annual Competitions and Conference on Nov. 1-4. The event will bring approximately 250 students and teachers from across Kentucky to CU's campus for an extensive series of student competitions, lectures, exhibits and recitals.

This is the fourth time CU has hosted the association, following conferences in 1985, 1999 and 2008.

The conference features three concerts which are open to the public. The Kentucky Composer's Concert is Sunday, Nov. 2 at 8 p.m., followed by a reception hosted by the School of Music, and the Conference Artist Recital on Monday, Nov. 3 at 8 p.m.  Concert pianist Stephen Beus will be featured in a concert co-sponsored by the Central Kentucky Arts Series. Both concerts will take place in Ransdell Chapel. The All-State Piano Ensemble will give the closing concert on Tuesday, Nov. 4 at 11 a.m. in the Student Activities Center.

The conference schedule is available online at kymta.org/conferenceschedule.html.

Dr. Mark Bradley, professor of music, directs the productions with assistance from Juliana Moura, assistant professor of music.  Chia-Yin Chen, a graduate student from Taiwan, provides the piano accompaniment.

Performances will be given on Saturday, Nov. 22 at 8 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 23 at 3 p.m., and Monday, Nov. 24 at 8 p.m.  All performances take place in the Gheens Recital Hall located on the university campus. The program is free and open to the public.
