Dr. David McCullough returns to CU stage
 

Dr. David McCullough, former founder and director of the Tiger Marching Band and director of  other CU bands, returned to the stage Friday, Feb. 28 to serve as conductor for the CU Honors Band Festival in Ransdell Chapel. Eighty of the most talented students in Kentucky were chosen from 140 students nominated by their high schools for the two-day festival with the culminating concert Feb. 28. CU featured Jan-Piet Knijff in organ recital  Feb. 8

  
Campbellsville University's Noon Organ Recital Series presented Jan-Piet Knijff, an active musician who is a graduate student at the University of Kentucky, on Tuesday, March 11, at 12:20 p.m. The recital was at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 429 N Central Ave., Campbellsville, Ky.

 

Knijff is a fellow of the American Guild of Organists and has served as a professional church musician for over 30 years. He entertained with compositions by Mozart, Haydn, Samuel Wesley, Best, Elgar, Liszt and Buxtehude.

The final performance in the 2013-2014 Noon Organ Recital Series will be on April 8, at 12:20 p.m. in the Ransdell Chapel.  Drs. David Hedrick, Reese Land, Lisa McArthur, and adjunct instructor Judith Davis will be guest artists on this program with Dr. Wesley Roberts, organist.

CU piano ensemble to present spring concert March 20

 

piano_keyboard.jpg The Campbellsville University Piano Ensemble will present its Spring Concert on Thursday, March 20, at 8 p.m. in The Gheens Recital Hall.

 

This semester's ensemble consists of five students: Steven Adams (Bardstown, Ky.), Colleen Ames (Elizabethtown, Ky.), Hsin-I Guo (Tainan, Taiwan), Jingying Pang (Xian, China), and Jaclyn White (Paducah, Ky.). They will be playing literature for four or more hands at one and two pianos.

 

The upcoming program will include Edvard Grieg's "Peer Gynt Suite No. 1," selections from Jacques Ibert's "Histoires," two movements from "Jeux d'Enfants" by Georges Bizet, and a movement from a Sonata by Johann Christian Bach, all for piano, four hands; Dianne Rahbee's "Three Close Friends" and Ralph Manuel's "Ever Joyful," both for piano, six hands; and the Rondo by Bedrich Smetana for two pianos, eight hands.

 

The Piano Ensemble will also present its program at the Loretto Motherhouse on April 2.

In Memoriam

 

Dee Wayne White, 94, of Paintsville, died Friday, February 8, 2014. He is survived by his wife, Thelma King White; son, Dee Wayne Bergen White; son-in-law, Parker Holden; 8 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held in Paintsville this Sunday, 3:00 PM. Paintsville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. He was owner of Mel-O-Dee Music. 

 

Mr. White was at Campbellsville during the '60s and '70s and was a voice teacher of current School of Music faculty member and assistant professor of music, Dr. David Hedrick.

Spotlight on... 

 

Dr. Mark Bradley, professor of music, has just completed 26 years of serving as the Voice of the Tigers for football and basketball games. He invites alumni to contribute to the Dr. Mark Bradley Voice Scholarship Fund.
