Uxbridge Celebrates Canada 150!
As Canada celebrates 150 years of Confederation, we dedicate our 2017 Spring/Summer Uxbridge Networking magazine to showcasing Uxbridge's anticipated events and activities. Festivities like the Rotary Club's Big Band Dinner and Dance, The Great Canadian Uxperience, a euphony of performances by Uxbridge's award winning choirs, the annual Canada Day party in Elgin Park - which features the first ever parade - as well as the Canada-themed Uxbridge Fall Fair will make our town a hub of activity for residents and visitors.

In addition to these events, initiatives like the Active 150 and tree planting challenge serve to enrich our planet and bodies, and the Scugog Island Pow Wow reminds us that there were people who called this land their home for thousands of years before Confederation.

Take the time to celebrate living in this exceptional country with our remarkable community.

The printed copies of the 2017 Spring/Summer Networking magazine will be available for FREE pick up at public locations starting March 24th 2017.

Online copies of the magazine can be viewed at:

Uxbridge Networking Group Lunch
Friday April 7th 2017, 12 Noon - 1:30pm
Scrambles, Foxbridge Golf Club
Speaker: Kris Nelson
Topic: Effectively develop communication and leadership skills
If you've ever felt that presenting yourself or your business in a more professional manner might benefit your business, or have found yourself stumbling through a short conversation, Toastmasters can help!

Toastmasters is an international not-for-profit organization, whose purpose is to provide individuals with a safe, friendly and positive forum in which to effectively develop communication and leadership skills to their highest possible level.  This is accomplished through small local clubs, where members work at their own pace to develop their own skills and support those of others through speaking, various leadership roles, and feedback and evaluation.

Kris Nelson is the Sales and Marketing Manager for John McLellan Contracting, a local contractor and renovation company here in Durham Region.  In her current role, she often speaks to large and small groups as well as on a one-to-one basis with new and potential customers.  Before this, though, she was a Toastmaster, and places a large amount of the credit for current and past success on the skills and relationships developed there.

While Kris's personal experience as a Toastmaster came as she looked to conquer her fear of standing up in front of people, in the intervening two and a half years, she's currently involved with three individual clubs and at the organization's management level.  Kris has also held many roles and currently serves as President of two clubs, VP Membership for another, and as an area director for North Durham and Kawartha, as well as mentoring a growing club in Oshawa.
