Alex is a recent graduate of Arizona State University and is currently working at her local grocery store with service dog Wish. She hopes to eventually move with Wish to a more career oriented job in publishing or editing. But when she's not working, Alex likes to write and read books. She also loves Disney, and of course, her dogs! She looks forward to Wish helping her continue to be independent with balance assistance up and down curbs, non-railed stairs, and also retrieving dropped or unreachable items. With Wish by her side, the world is limitless for Alex. This is what Alex has to say about her first few months with Wish:
"Receiving a service dog is a special kind of gift, and my first few months with Wish have been a life changing, but also re-teaching, experience. It took a few weeks for Wish to get acclimated to her new home and pack mates, but now she is here to stay. I take her out with me every chance I get, and a few weeks after coming home Wish was able to come with me to my part-time job at our friendly neighborhood Safeway. Wish and I also are attending a few classes at our local pet store to further solidify our bond outside of being 'on the job'. All of her progress is not without a few weak spots, but keeping in contact with Sandy and Canine Angels, Wish and I are working on making the most of each other through positive reinforcement. (Which Wish thoroughly enjoys). Most importantly though, having Wish as a new service dog, I'm not only able to regain independence but help educate those around our community about service dogs as a whole and even give a few canine tips and pointers. Wish and I have been working hard these past few months, and I'm sure we'll just get better and better together as our relationship grows."
Puppy Pool Party
Our new chairman of the board, Jennifer Killinger,  held a bbq - pool party at her house for "Bella" babies in Southern California and some recent graduates as well.  Puppies and graduates enjoyed the time to forget all their duties and just have fun swimming with the dogs!
