Join us for worship this summer! We will continue to meet every Sunday at 8:15 AM in The Chapel for New Traditions. Check out the schedule below for more information on worship services:

July 30 ............. All Together (Canterbury Center) 

On Sunday August 6, we will return to regular schedule.

Different Classes and Opportunities

Combined Sunday School | Wesley Hall at 9:15 AM: Rev. Warren Nash will lead the combined Sunday school class this week. He will discuss the life-changing trip to The Holy Land he led with 30 Canterbury members and friends in May. 

Come Visit Encore | Room M140 at 9:15 AM:
Pathways Sunday school class is sponsoring an opportunity to experience a short version of a day in the life of our Encore Respite Ministry. Join the fun and see the wonderful things this program does for our church and community. 

Summer Beginnings Class | Wesley Hall after Worship:
Learn more about what it means to be a member of Canterbury after worship in Wesley Hall. Lunch is provided and childcare is available. 

The Clark Center for Theological Studies | Room M227 at 5 PM:
Come explore Diana Butler Bass' latest book,  Grounded: Finding God in the World, a Spiritual Revolution . Most of the study will be on your own or through email, and Dr. Oliver Clark will lead an introduction to the study and distribute questions this Sunday, July 16th. Pickup your book in the Canterbury Adult Resource Center for $10. Register with [email protected] .


Outreach & Mission Opportunities 

Make a Difference this Summer

Family Promise Volunteers Needed | August 6-12th:
Canterbury will host the families of Family Promise in the Scout House the week of August 6th. If you would like to bring dinner that week or volunteer as an overnight host, please contact Norita Murray at [email protected] or call  913-7458. 

Avondale Samaritan Place Basketball Camp | July 24-27th:
Help prepare 30 sack lunches for 1st-4th graders attending Avondale Basketball League's first HOOP Skills and Character Camp from July 24th-July27th. Contact Leigh Ann Sisson at [email protected]

Avondale Elementary School Supplies | Donate Before July 31st:
Donate your contribution of $50 before July 31. It will furnish much-needed school supplies to an entire classroom at Avondale Elementary School this fall.  Sign up to sponsor a classroom at  [email protected] All checks should be made out to Canterbury UMC and earmarked "Classroom Supplies."

2017 District Mission u Mission Studies | August 5th from 9 AM-2 PM:
Register by July 22nd for the South Central District's Mission u Mission Studies. UMW groups in our district will join together at Canterbury for study and fellowship. Childcare is provided. You can fill out the registration form here and mail that and your payment of $9 to Jennifer McCroskey (3556 Spring Valley Court) or you may leave your completed registration form and money at the round reception desk. 

Canterbury-Beeson 
Forum on Aging 

Registration Now Available

The Canterbury-Beeson Forum on Aging is set for Saturday, August 12th from 7:15 AM-3:30 PM.  Whether you are a professional caregiver or simply a family member caring for an aging loved-one, this year's outstanding speakers can help you make the right decisions when you need to. Come join us for this series of presentations addressing dementia, Alzheimer's disease, and other issues on aging.

Avonfest

Tickets Now Available

Save the date for Avonfest on September 17th from 5-7 PM at Cahaba Brewing Company (4500 5th Ave. South). Enjoy friendship, food and a beverage for an annual celebration benefiting Avondale Samaritan Place. Proceeds from the night will go to support all of ASP's growing outreach programs. Tickets can be purchased at the door as well as in advance at www.canterburyumc.org/AvonFest.
