Noel Johnson - New Director of Contemporary Worship

Please join us in offering a warm Canterbury welcome to Noel, his wife Fanny, and son Aleph (age 3). You can meet Noel and his family THIS SUNDAY at 10:30 am in Contemporary Worship. See you there!

"Music was always my gift and naturally a spiritual pursuit for me," says Noel. "I  liked the old hymns and gospel music, but contemporary Christian music when I  was growing up always struck me as cheesy and sometimes disingenuous. I have  been writing, recording, and performing my own music since the age of 14, but I  started playing in worship bands years ago as a favor to my brother-in-law, and
we would always look for ways to make the music cooler and more fun to play.  Through these worship experiences, God began working in my heart, and through the years, I began developing my  gift as a worship leader. I found I really enjoyed it and people seemed to really respond, so I began to pray that if
God so desired, He would provide opportunities for me to work and serve. And He did!"

Tori Hastings - New Associate Pastor

"I felt called to the ministry as a teenager, but was part of a denomination that  didn't ordain women," says Tori. "While at Auburn, I got involved with the Wesley  Foundation and realized I could actually become a pastor." Duke Divinity School  was Tori's next step and while there, her time working at a local church steered  her path toward the pulpit. She and her family are relocating from Tuscaloosa  where she has recently been serving at both Druid Hills UMC and Holt UMC. "I am  excited to come to Canterbury and join the direction it's going with discipleship  and whole life spirituality," she says. "My hope is to help people view discipleship as more than just a trip to church on  Sunday, but that it's an important part of everything we do in every facet of our lives."

Tori will begin serving here at CUMC on June 26.

Brian Ward - New Director of Young Adults & The WAY

We are pleased to announce that Brian Ward has been given two new leadership assignments within Canterbury: Effective immediately, Brian will assume leadership responsibility for Young Adult Ministry at Canterbury. This is a position of growing importance as young adults assume their roles of leadership and responsibility within the Church. For purposes
of this assignment, young adults will be defined as individuals from 18 to 45 years of age, and will include the Journeys, Compass, Foundations, Caravan, Believers and Shepherds classes. Brian will be a part of the Whole Life Spirituality Team in this role. Also, Brian will assume pastoral responsibility for The Way effective on June 5th. Brian will be a new voice for The Way, following the previous leadership of Drew Clayton and Mike Holly. The Way will meet each week during the summer at 5:00 in the Chapel. It's a perfect worship alternative for families who have been away at the lake or the beach for the weekend, but want to honor the importance of worship in their lives.

First Things First

Summer Is Here!

Canterbury's many ministries for outreach, worship, and learning stay in full swing throughout the summer -- and they all need funding. So please help keep the church's financial house in order this summer by continuing to pay your pledge commitment. Or better yet ... consider prepaying your giving plan BEFORE you head off for the surf, the lake, or the mountains.

Have a great, slowed-down summer. And please, put FIRST THINGS FIRST!
