CANUCKS MEET THE NORTH

MAKES INAUGRAL VISIT TO B.C.'S NORTH COAST SEPTEMBER 7-10TH
Vancouver, BC - The
Vancouver Canucks
announced plans today for a special team visit to British Columbia's
North Coast by Vancouver Canucks players, coaching staff and
management. Canucks Meet the North includes visits to the communities
of Prince Rupert and Massett, B.C. as part of a team activity to the
West Coast Fishing Club in Haida Gwaii.
On Saturday, September 7, the Canucks visit Prince Rupert's Jim Ciccone
Civic Centre to participate in a traditional drum welcome by the
Tsimshian First Nations and a fan meet and greet. In partnership with
Classic Rock CFNR, the community event features a youth contest with
three grand prize trips to Vancouver including airfare, hotel
accomodations and seats at the owner's table for a Canuck's game. The
contest opens today with further details available on CFNR's website www.classicrockcfnr.ca.
On Tuesday, September 10, a traditional Haida longhouse ceremony will
officially wecome the Canucks to Massett followed by a community
barbecue at the Old Massett Community Hall. Massett is located on
northern Haida Gwaii, 90 km west of mainland Birtish Columbia. It is
Canada's most remote archipelago.
This is the first time the Vancouver Canucks have visited B.C.'s North
Coast in franchise history. Communities the Canucks have visited
throughout the province of B.C. include training camps in Victoria,
Powell River, Duncan, Parkesville, Kamloops, Vernon, Whistler and
Penticton. The Canucks Alumini have traveled extensively throughout
B.C. for charity games including stops in Kitimat, Smithers and Port
Hardy.
