Movers and Shakers
Matthew McDermott, Chief of Staff for Lieutenant Governor Kim Guadagno, will be leaving later this month, but he won't be going far. McDermott will cross the hall over to the Governor's Office to serve as Appointments Counsel, succeeding Michele Brown, who was recently appointed head of the NJ Economic Development Authority. |

Tricia Caliguire, recently took over as Chief Counsel at the NJ Board of Public Utilities. She was formerly Governor Christie's policy advisor on energy, environment and agriculture issues.
Marcela Maziarz, recently joined the Senate Majority Office and will staff the Senate Labor Committee and handle Latino media issues. Matt Bonasia took a leave from the DSC to serve as campaign manager for Assemblywoman Gabriella Mosquera's special election in District 4.
Ryan Goodwin recently joined the Governor's Counsel Office team after serving as Legislative Liaison at the Department of Human Services. Goodwin will manage health, banking and insurance matters.
CIG Vice President Chrissy Buteas will be inducted into Rowan University's Athletic Hall of Fame in October. Buteas was the goalie of the 2001 Rowan University National Championship Field Hockey Team while a Rowan undergraduate.

Home Health Providers Battle Rate Cuts to Personal Care Assistance Program (PCA)
A proposed cut in Medicaid reimbursement rates to the state's Personal Care Assistance (PCA) providers would restrict access to critical homecare services for New Jersey's elderly and minority populations, according to the Home Health Services and Staffing Association of New Jersey (HHSSA-NJ).
New Jersey Health Exchange
A law creating a health exchange to assist New Jerseyans buying health insurance in compliance with the Affordable Care Act had been designed and approved by the state legislature earlier this year but was vetoed by Governor Chris Christie. Senators Gill and Vitale, and Assembly members Conaway and Singleton recently reintroduced the bill.
Minimum Wage - A2162
Assembly Speaker Sheila Oliver will continue to advocate for her top priority: an increase in the State's minimum wage. She is working with her colleagues in the Senate to pass the bill in the upper house.
Jobs Bills
The Legislature is drafting another set of bills targeted at increasing job growth in the State. Stay tuned for further details.

This milestone was celebrated with a bridging ceremony over the George Washington Bridge and the Believe in Girls event at Liberty State Park where music stars Sara Bareilles and Joe Jonas performed. Sonia Rita, Account Executive for ODM, was recently a featured guest speaker for a Women's Political Caucus of New Jersey panel discussion on campaigns and social media, hosted for a delegation of women visiting New Jersey from Bahrain.
ODM will work with the Associated General Contractors of New Jersey (AGC of NJ) and the Building Contractors of NJ (BCANJ) for the third consecutive year to promote NJ Safety Day. The annual event promotes the awareness of current safety training and practices in place to ensure construction workers stay safe on the job and return safely to their homes. This year's event takes place on October 10th.

HHSSA Annual Meeting
The Home Health Services and Staffing Association of New Jersey (HHSSA-NJ) held its annual meeting on Wednesday, September 12th at the Woodbridge Hilton, featuring keynote addresses from Human Services Commissioner Jennifer Velez and Senate Health Committee Chairman Joe Vitale. CIG's Jeanette Hoffman and Gene Mulroy provided the membership with updates on current legislative and regulatory issues impacting the industry. |

Poll Watch - Latest and Greatest
Governor Chris Christie has 56% favorability ratings statewide according to a recent poll conducted by the Philadelphia Inquirer.
According to the latest Monmouth University Poll, Obama holds a 7 point lead over Romney (48% to 41%)among all registered voters and a 3 point lead (48% to 45%) among likely voters.
In the latest Quinnipiac Poll, President Barack Obama tops Gov. Mitt Romney, his Republican challenger, 51 - 44 percent among New Jersey likely voters. |

Senator Bob Menendez and his challenger, State Senator Joe Kyrillos (R) have agreed to three debates:
* Thursday, Oct. 4 at 8 p.m., at Montclair State University, to be aired on NJTV.
* Wednesday, Oct. 10 at 7 p.m., on New Jersey 101.5 FM.
* Sunday, Oct. 14, to be broadcast at a yet-to-be determined time by the New York and Philadelphia ABC affiliates and Univision. The debate will be taped the day before. |
