Wednesday, February 15 is MRTA Capitol Blitz Day.

Dear MRTA Members:

It is time to show our STRENGTH IN NUMBERS.  We are asking you to write your state representative and state senator on Wednesday, February 15, MRTA Capitol Blitz Day.

Below is suggested verbiage for correspondence to your representative and senator.  Please feel free to use your own language, the more personal the better.   All politics is local!

Copy and paste this suggested verbiage into an email or write your own personal message:

Dear Senator XXXX:

I am a taxpayer and voter in your district.  I am a retired educator and member of MRTA.  Today you were delivered our 2017 MRTA Issues of Importance by members of MRTA.  I ask you to review them and consider our positions. There are two important issues I would like you to oppose.  The first is SB 228 (Koenig R-15) this bill establishes a hybrid pension plan for state employees and sets a bad precedent for educators.  Second is SB 32 (Emery R-31) this is a voucher bill that will drain $25 million of public school funding per year in a time of scarce state revenue.

Thank you for your willingness to serve our state.  Please do not hesitate to contact me if I can answer any questions.  I wish you the very best.

Sincerely,

Dear Representative XXXX:

I am a taxpayer and voter in your district.  I am a retired educator and member of MRTA.  Today you were delivered our 2017 MRTA Issues of Importance by members of MRTA.  I ask you to review them and consider our positions.  There is an important issue I would like you to oppose and that is HB 634 (Roeber R-34).  This bill expands charter schools statewide and will drain scarce state revenues from public education.  The vast majority of our public schools in Missouri do an excellent job and charter schools are not needed.

There are two bills I respectfully ask you to support.  The first is HB 304 (Pike R-126) this bill will provide much needed reforms the divorce provisions within PSRS/PEERS.  The second is HB 305 (Pike R-126) this legislation deals with Work After Retirement (WAR) closing the loophole that third party employment services have created.  I feel there should be a level playing field for all retirees statewide.

Thank you for your willingness to serve our state.  Please do not hesitate to contact me if I can answer any questions.  I wish you the very best.

Sincerely,

Please note:  SB 228 (Koenig R-15) creating a hybrid pension plan for state employees (MOSERS) is our top concern at this time.  This legislation is just one amendment away from including PSRS/PEERS,  PSRS of STL or  PSRS of KC. This bill needs to be stopped and is the priority of Rex Sinquefield's Show Me Institute.  This bill was voted out of committee this week.

SB 32 (Emery R-31) creates a voucher program taking $25 million away from public schools each year.

HB 634 (Roeber R-34) expands charter schools statewide taking scarce tax dollars from your local public school.

On the positive side, in the House of Representatives, we would like to pass the bills introduced by Representative Pike (HB 304 and HB 305) dealing with divorce and closing the Kelly Services loophole.

THANK YOU for being counted as a member of MRTA!

MRTA is the only association where the education retiree is the #1 priority. MRTA is 26,000 members strong and growing.
