IACP Featured in Inside Health Policy on Office-use
|
IACP's Executive Vice President John Voliva, RPh, discusses the importance of office-use compounding for patients in a recent interview with D.C.-based publication,
Inside Health Policy.
"John Voliva, executive vice president of the International Academy of Compounding Pharmacists, says the final guidance, 'Prescription Requirement Under Section 503A of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act,' put limits on office-use compounding that go against congressional intent and should be rescinded.
|
"We're asking for FDA to rescind it. It would be administrative from that standpoint, and then issue a proposed rule through the [Administrative Procedure Act] so we have notice and comment from the stakeholders on the public docket," Voliva said to
Inside Health Policy.

The Best Strategies to Increase Front-end Sales in a Compounding Pharmacy
Why is it essential to increase front-end sales?
Because of the long-term trends of:
* Eroding Rx margins
* Increasing expenditures for health/wellness/nutrition.
In addition:
* Front-end margins are not controlled by any government agency
* Their average gross margin are ca. 40%-50%
* There is an increasing reliance on self-care
* The FDA is continuously approving Rx/OTC switches.
In pharmacy chains the ratio of Rx to front-end sales is about 50/50.

Becca Mitchell, PharmD, FIACP, VP Regulatory & Quality, US Compounding Pharmacy, Conway, Ark., is running for the Arkansas State Board of Pharmacy.
"I believe it's important with USP <800> coming and FDA's overreach that the Arkansas Board has someone who knows compounding and understands the nuances of the industry, and will advocate for practical, patient-focused regulations that balance access and quality."
