Congress Preserves Access to Compounded Meds Including Compounding

In a considerable win for patients who need compounded medications, the International Academy of Compounding Pharmacists (IACP), working with the DQSA Coalition, is very pleased to announce that the President has signed the Congressional Omnibus bill into law, HR244, which provides funding through September 30, 2017, and includes language that addresses the Memorandum of Understanding, office-use, and pharmacy inspections.

Champions in Congress have acted to preserve access to patients that turn to compounding for lifesaving medications. This bipartisan legislation includes critical language which clarifies congressional intent on several compounding regulations implementing the Drug Quality and Security Act (DQSA) of 2013. The regulations addressed are among those on which Congress had asked FDA for additional clarity and expressed strong concern that FDA implementation actions were drastically decreasing patient access to vital compounded medications.

We're Up to 66 Signatures!

Today  is Last Day to Take Action. Ask your Representatives to Sign onto Letter to FDA

Please contact your respective Congressional representatives, asking them to join Congressmen Chris Stewart and Buddy Carter in signing a bipartisan communique to FDA regarding office-use compounding!

WE NOW HAVE 66 HOUSE SIGNATURES. Please email dagmar@iacprx.org to check whether your Representative has signed the letter.

Let's try to get as many signatures as we can and send a strong message to FDA that the Agency must follow the 2016 Omnibus appropriations language!

You're Needed at Compounders on Capitol Hill 2017!

IACP's Governmental Affairs team, working closely with 30+ organizations comprising the DQSA Coalition , has made tremendous progress in the past year towards policy changes at the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) that will restore patient access to compounded medications. They are working to protect your ability to practice compounding pharmacy!

IACP lobbyists fought hard to ensure that the massive budget bill funding the federal government for fiscal year 2017 recently passed the Congress and signed by the President earlier this month contains strong language directing the FDA to stop regulating and inspecting compounding pharmacies as if they were drug manufacturers. There's still a lot of work to be done!

We need hundreds of compounding pharmacists on  Capitol Hill on June 13th  to educate Members of Congress about FDA's overreach and to rally our congressional champions to hold FDA to congressional intent and protect patient access to compounded medications and your ability to practice pharmacy. Additionally, your IACP team and the DQSA Coalition have been working for months on federal legislation to "clean up" the DQSA  and remove any doubt about congressional intent to retain state regulatory authority over the practice of pharmacy. We anticipate introduction of this legislation in the House in coming weeks and at CCH will be working hard to secure co-sponsors of this important bill.

Please consider registering and joining us in Washington, DC to walk the halls of Congress to protect your patients and your profession. We need your help and we need you at 2017 CCH more than ever!
