House Appropriations Committee to Hear 
Supplemental Budget Wednesday

The House Appropriations Committee will begin subcommittee hearings on the supplemental budget beginning at 7:00 a.m. Education will begin at 7:20 a.m.  After subcommittee hearings, the full House Appropriations Committee will meet at 8:30 a.m. to vote on the supplemental budget.
Education Committees Begin Work Tomorrow

After last week's joint education committee meeting, both committees will begin hearing bills this week. On Wednesday, the Senate Education and Youth committee will meet to hear a presentation by Dan Weber, the executive director of the Charter System Foundation.  Sen. Lindsey Tippins (R - Marietta), the chair of the committee, will also hold a hearing on SB 362, a bill that would establish an innovative assessment pilot program. The House Education Committee will meet on Thursday and hear the following bills:
  • HB 739 by Rep. Al Williams (D - Midway), the Tracy Rainey Act. The bill seeks to amend current state law allowing for temporary Professional Standards Certification certification for military spouses by renaming it the Tracy Rainey Act.
  • HB 722 by Rep. David Casas (R - Lilburn) adds any nonprofit, baccalaureate degree granting postsecondary institution which has been in existence ten or more years with a physical location in this state and which holds institutional accreditation by a national or regional accrediting agency that is recognized by either the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or the United States Department of Education to the definition of "eligible postsecondary institutions" for Move on When Ready programs.
  • HB 898 by Rep. Brooks Coleman, chair of the House Education Committee, would create a Joint Study Committee on the Establishment of a State Accreditation Process.

  • Helen Rice, 3rd Congressional district
  • Kenneth Mason, 5th Congressional district
  • Barbara Hampton, 6th Congressional district
  • Mike Royal, 7th Congressional district
  • Scott Johnson, 11th Congressional district
