Senate HELP Committee Approves Betsy DeVos
at Committee Hearing
The United States Senate Health, Education, Labor, & Pensions Committee met Tuesday morning for another hearing regarding the appointment of Betsy DeVos as U.S Education Secretary. Committee members approved her appointment sending the vote to the full U.S. Senate.
Voting followed party lines with the 12 Republicans on the committee voting "Yes," including Georgia Senator Johnny Isakson, and the 11 Democrats voting "No" despite several GOP senators expressing their concerns with Ms. DeVos' lack of experience working in, attending, or sending her own children to public schools and her apparent unfamiliarity with important federal education laws.
DeVos has been a controversial figure across the country with many senators receiving enough phone calls to overwhelm their voicemail for several days.
