Capitol Update
Representative Jeni Arndt- HD 53
Assistant Caucus Chair; Chair of Agriculture, Livestock, and Natural Resources Committee;
Member of Business Affairs and Labor Committee

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

This morning, I had two bills pass the Appropriations Committee. This committee addresses the fiscal impact bills have on the state's budget. The Mussel-free Colorado Act protects our waters from zebra and quagga mussels by strengthening the state's Invasive Species Program. HB18-1093 allows for permissible use of reclaimed water on edible crops. Both of these bills are headed to the House floor for second reading.
On Wednesday, I had visitors from Front Range Community College's State and Local Government Class. These bright students got a first hand look at state government. If you are a teacher or professor with a day at the Capitol planned, let me know. I can reserve seats on the House floor so your class can see the legislature up close and in action.

In November, the city of Fort Collins won the national Malcolm Baldrige Quality Award. The Baldrige Award is a Presidential-level honor recognizing  exemplary  organizations and businesses for their leadership and innovation. This week, Governor Hickenlooper proclaimed a day in honor of Fort Collins.

"Fort Collins is a wonderful community in many ways including having a high performing city government," Mayor Wade Troxell said in the city's press release announcing the award. "Achieving performance excellence helps us provide world class municipal services through operational excellence and a culture of innovation. Our citizens and businesses are the inspiration behind this pursuit."

Congratulations to Becky Ravenkamp for being named Farm Credit Colorado's 2018 Rising Star in Agriculture.  The Rising Star is between 35-50 years old and is making significant contributions to agriculture at a young age.  Becky  was raised on a ranch in Lincoln County and continues to play an active role there today. Becky is passionate about agriculture and it shows in the cow/calf operation she runs with her husband and her leadership as President of the Colorado Agri-Woman. Conservation is extremely important to Becky. On her farm she practices no-till, continuous cropping. She also has a large focus on soil health and regeneration of grazing land.
We had a lighter moment in the office when I climbed into the sill to close the window. Heating and cooling is a challenge in an old building.
