Capitol Update
Representative Jeni Arndt- HD 53
Assistant Caucus Chair; Chair of Agriculture, Livestock, and Natural Resources Committee;
Member of Business Affairs and Labor Committee

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

Rep. Singer and I presenting SB18-108.

Bill Update:

It's been a busy week that started with two committee meetings on Monday. In the Ag Committee, I had two bills up and both passed. The first bill, SB18-187, requires the Marijuana Enforcement Division to create rules around recycling stems and root stocks of industrial medical and recreational marijuana. Currently, these parts of the plant are going to waste when they could be used for fiber products. The second bill, SB18-188, adds millet as an agricultural commodity, allowing schools like CSU to do more research on it.

In the Finance Committee, Rep. Wilson and I passed the Parks and Wildlife Future Generations Act. This bill is vital for our children and grandchildren to have access to public lands we enjoy today.

On Wednesday, Rep. Singer and I passed a bill that is near and dear to my heart. The Colorado Road and Safety Act allows all people in Colorado with valid driver's licenses to renew online. This bill is about equality and fairness.
Passing the Mussel-free Colorado Act.

Yesterday, the Mussel-free Colorado Act passed its last vote and is on to the Governor's desk! This is a huge win for Colorado's waters. Colorado has a strict boat inspection program that keep zebra and quagga mussels from being introduced into our lakes and we must keep this program funded. Most surrounding states have already been infested by these invasive species so it is more important than ever to be proactive.
The cosponsors of the Citizens United resolution.

This week, I submitted a resolution to overturn Citizens United. This has been a few years in the making and I am thrilled to see it reach the Speaker's desk. Since the ruling of Citizens United, our democracy has been under attack. We must do all we can to get big money and its influence out of politics.
Some of the Clothing Swap attendees (I scored an awesome pair of blue velvet overalls)

Tuesday, I hosted the first annual Capitol Clothing Swap. As you are all aware, I am a big into recycling. The swap was a great way to breathe new life into gently used business clothes for staff and legislators alike. Buying clothes for a job can get expensive and this was a fun way to help others. I'm sure next year's will be a hit!
