Capitol Update
Representative Jeni Arndt- HD 53
Assistant Caucus Chair; Chair of Agriculture, Livestock, and Natural Resources Committee;
Member of Business Affairs and Labor Committee

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

Happy 2018 Legislative Session! It is an honor to represent the great people of Western Fort Collins for a 4th year. So far, three of my bills have been introduced. The first is the Mussel-Free Colorado Act, which helps fund Colorado Parks and Wildlife's Invasive Species Program after a 2016 Supreme Court ruling left the program with almost no money coming from severance tax revenue. The second bill allows growers to use reclaimed water on marijuana. Both of these bills came from the Interim Water Resource Review Committee that I was vice chair of this summer. The third bill allows reclaimed water in toilets from new construction.

I am working on other conservation bills including one that requires environmentally safe disposal of Technologically Enhanced Naturally Occurring Radioactive Materials (TENORM). This is very concerning and I am working for long-term protection of our groundwater. I am also building on the lease fallowing bill I passed last year and expanding it to include deficit irrigation. I will also be running a bill that allows edible plants to be irrigated with water that is not 100% potable. This year we are going to pass a bill allowing all valid Colorado driver's licenses to be renewed online. This greatly assists people without formal documentation to renew their license. Outside of statutory changes, I am introducing a resolution for campaign finance reform and I continue my work on civil discourse in state legislatures across the country.

Last weekend, I attended the State Ag and Rural Leaders' Ag Chair Conference. In Colorado, agriculture is the second biggest economic driver. The conference is a non-partisan event that allows state ag chairs to learn from each other.

The National Western Stock Show is an event I look forward to every year. The first show opened in 1906 with an attendance estimated at 15,000. This year, I was invited to participate in a fundraiser that included various events. Can you guess what event this is?

While I like to have a good time, I also take my role as your representative very seriously. Here is a link to an interview I did with KRFC. I discuss the upcoming session, my various roles at the Capitol,  #metoo  issues, and my work in civil discourse. My mom, Libby, said it sounded okay:
