Capitol Update
Representative Jeni Arndt- HD 53
Assistant Caucus Chair; Chair of Agriculture, Livestock, and Natural Resources Committee;
Member of Business Affairs and Labor Committee

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

Bill update:

Today, I had three bills pass on 3rd reading.  SB18-019 trues up loans for financing water and wastewater infrastructure with the Clean Water Act. The length of the loans were expanded from 20 years to 30 years, giving local governments more flexibility. SB18-041 modernizes Colorado water statutes to align with best practice in water augmentation.

HB18-1130 builds on my military spouse teaching bill that passed 3rd reading last week. It allows teachers who move to Colorado from out of state to obtain a teaching license if they had three years of successful previous teaching  experience. This is just one of the many ways the legislature is addressing our teaching shortage.

All three bills were unanimous. How's that for serving all of Colorado?

Yesterday, I was appointed to a new Select Committee on Climate Responsibility. As a committee, we will consider policy options for meeting (and strengthening)  Colorado's climate goals. I often hear that climate change policy is bad for business, but that is not true. The City of Fort Collins passed one of the toughest climate action plans in the country a few years ago on a bipartisan basis. Good climate change policy means a healthy environment, which is always good for business. The first meeting will be on March 14th. Check out our launch video above. I am making a bold move into the future with live video!

This week in the Agriculture, Livestock, and Natural Resources Committee, we heard from an expert on radiation, NORM, and TENORM. I will be bringing a bill to give regulatory authority to our state health department. Here is the presentation if anyone is interested:
You are all invited to join me, Rep. Joann Ginal, and Sen. John Kefalas for a Community Forum at Old Town Library on Saturday, February 24th from 10:00am-11:30am.
