Capitol Update
Representative Jeni Arndt- HD 53
Assistant Caucus Chair; Chair of Agriculture, Livestock, and Natural Resources Committee;
Member of Business Affairs and Labor Committee
Dear Friends and Neighbors,

Welcome to fall! It sure has been a busy and fun summer full of family, friends, and of colleagues . I look forward to the upcoming session based on the potential bills I have seen from constituent input and my interim committees.

Before the 2018 session begins, the legislature has some unfinished work to get done. On October 2nd, I'll be back under the Golden Dome to fix the language in SB17-267. This is a comprehensive bill that allows the hospital provider fee to not be subject to the TABOR cap. The problem is that it also rewrote the state's marijuana tax laws and RTD, the Scientific and Cultural Facilities District, and other special districts were unintentionally left without money collected from recreational pot taxes. We are having the special session to fix this.

There is nothing more important for a society's health than the future of its children. When I heard the news about the Trump administration's decision to end DACA, I was heartbroken. This is a moral, ethical, and human issue and I am hopeful Congress will find a way to make this right. There are nearly 190 Colorado State University students impacted by this reckless decision. For current DACA recipients who are confused about what to do next, the Colorado Immigrant Rights Coalition is hosting free DACA renewal clinics around the state, including two in Fort Collins. They will be at CSU September 22nd and 23rd from 10am-4pm. For more information please visit:

(Senator Fields, Senator Todd, Representative Michaelson Jenet and myself at CSG West)
The Western Council of State Governments (CSG West) had its annual meeting this past August in Tacoma, Washington. This is an event I look forward each year because of the wide array of topics discussed and the diverse group of people. I am honored to be the Vice Chair of the Agriculture and Water Committee. As a committee, we explored policy about agriculture, NAFTA,  and water policy in the west.

(I ran into the Canadian Consul General, Stephane Lessard, at the Colorado State Fair)
A few weeks ago, I made it down to Pueblo for the Colorado State Fair with my officemate Representative Daneya Esgar. The State Fair has been a tradition since 1872. The best part about the fair is seeing the huge opportunity groups like 4-H give to teenagers and children. To see how Larimer County did check out this website: Great work!

(I watched the solar eclipse with Representative Hooton and Representative Hansen)
I did not make it up to Wyoming for the solar eclipse, but I had a great time watching it with my friends from the legislature during a break from committee. The next total eclipse for North America happens April 8th, 2024. I hope you all had a chance to be part of such a unique event.

Water Resource Review Committee meetings are open to the public and I encourage anyone who is interested to please come. The schedule includes meeting times and locations.
As always, feel free to call me anytime at 970-231-5090 or email me at
