Principal's Message

Happy Friday, Cardinal Families!

Wow, what a great week we had here at Cardinal. We are so thankful to have almost 100% of our parents attend conferences the past two evenings. I know some families had to schedule times beyond these two nights due to schedules, but I want to thank you for making your child's education of utmost importance. Don't forget you can view your child's report card online at PowerSchool today. Please take a moment to celebrate the hard work and dedication your child has put into his/her grades.  Congratulations to those 4th and 5th graders who made the A/B Honor Roll.  Click here to see the list of those students.  Also, congratulations to those students who had perfect attendance for the first quarter.  Click here to see that list.

Calling All Olympic Readers: The entire school participated in Drop Everything and Read today. This was our kickoff to our Olympic themed Fall Reading Challenge. Please encourage your child to read at least 10 days over break. Students who read over all 3 breaks will enjoy a pool party at the end of the year.

Snack Sale: Student Council will be offering the first snack sale of the school year on Thursday, October 27!  Included in the sale are Doritos, Cheez-its, Chocolate Chortles, fresh Apples, and Juicy Juice apple juice. All items are $.50 each. Student council members will be selling in the morning. All proceeds will go to Relay for Life!

Finally, I would like to celebrate our students who have clipped up to Red throughout the week. I am so proud of their amazing behavior choices. This week we celebrate these students:

Gavin Arnold
Charlize Browning
Tyler Ramsey
Landon Michael
Vincent Painter
Victoria McCarty
Brayden Coon
Josie Halsmer
Parker Moore
Kadyn Hiett
Adalyn Vail
Ella Painter
Benny Pinkston
Max Velikan

My hope for you and your family is that you are able to enjoy the two weeks without a school schedule. That you get some rest and have some playtime with your child. We will be looking forward to seeing your son or daughter when we return to school on October 24.
Sincerely,

Mr. Gianfagna

Body Safety Parent Preview Night

Tuesday, November 1 from 6:00 - 7:00 at Eagle Elementary (cafeteria)

Parents are invited to attend this meeting to learn about the age-appropriate lessons that will be taught to your children this school year by the elementary school counselors. Unfortunately, recent counts show that sexual abuse of children takes place more often than we would like to believe. As a result, our children need to be taught assertiveness and self-protection skills to prevent such tragedies. This program is presented in a non-threatening, informative way.

Parents, please join us so that you can see the videos and hear about the lessons that will be presented at each grade level. For the lessons we will be using the same videos as last year for all grades with the exception of 4th grade.  A new video will be used this year.

Counselor's Corner

Body and Personal Safety Program:
The school counselor will be conducting body and personal safety lessons with students in grades K-5 the week of December 5.  Unfortunately, sexual abuse of children takes place more often than we would like to believe.  Through these lessons, we will provide children the opportunity to learn assertive self-protection skills, differentiate between appropriate and inappropriate touches, and identify people to whom they can go for help. Students in grades K - 3 will learn the appropriate names of male and female private body parts, and anatomically correct dolls will be shown.  All students will participate in the program.  If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Miller or Mr. Gianfagna.
Parents, please check the Flyer Folder for important information regarding body safety and how to discuss this topic with your child.

Michael Garland Author/Illustrator Visit

For several years I have been reading the Miss Smith's Incredible
Storybook stories to our 2nd grade students. We all love these stories and the incredible illustrations!

On Thursday, Oct. 27th, the author/illustrator of the Miss Smith stories and so many more, Michael Garland, is coming to speak to all of the students at Cardinal and Delaware Trail!

Mr. Garland is coming to us courtesy of an InCredible Grant that I received from the BEF this year! This grant is partially funded from the Yankee Candle Fundraiser! The Parent Support Groups of both Cardinal and Delaware Trail are also helping with funding and for that I am very grateful!
