See what's happening at Cardinal Elementary
May 5, 2017
Happy Friday, Cardinal Families!

It's been a soggy few days. I am sure that many of you are just as ready for warm, sunny weather as I am. Our students have been confined inside during recess, and they are ready to get out and stretch their legs. I am hopeful that there are brighter days ahead.

We have many upcoming events for our students and families. I am looking forward to the fun and hope that you are able to participate in the ones for families to join. Due to a conflict at the high school, there has been a change in our pool party dates for those students who read during each of our reading challenges. If your child is participating in that, he/she should have brought home information with the new swimming day and time.

With 14 school days remaining, please continue to encourage your child to stay focused and work hard to the end. Students will continue learning and being assessed through the last day of school, and we want our students to shine. Thank you for your continuous support in your child's education.

Finally, I would like to celebrate our students who have clipped up to Red throughout the week. I am so proud of their amazing behavior choices. This week we celebrate these students:

Natalie Rinker
Tyler Ramsey
Jacob Milner
Mason Bicknell
Brody Stoops
Ellis Burton
Alex Bousum
Haley Arnold
Reese McCroskey
Ethan Melendez
Alaina Stainbrook

Have a wonderful weekend!

Mr. Gianfagna

2017 RELAY FOR LIFE

You are invited to the 2017 Relay for Life event on Saturday, May 20th at Brownsburg Town Hall!
The event will begin at 9:30 am and end close to midnight.  What a day!  But it will be a day filled with fun, educational activities that will help us celebrate, remember, and fight back against cancer!

Relay for Life was originally started by Dr. Gordon Klatt in 1985.  He walked around a track for 24 hours to help fundraise for the American Cancer Society and the nation's biggest health concern: CANCER.  The tradition continues today across town throughout the United States.  Brownsburg community members gather to honor those who are fighting and remember those who have fought the battle with cancer.

A participant from each relay team walks the track at all times to symbolize our relentless efforts in finding a cure for cancer.  We would love for you and your family to walk the track to represent our Cardinal team.   Listed below are a few special times that you might be interested in experiencing:

Opening Ceremony (9:30 a.m.): Relay for Life of Brownsburg will kick off the event with an opening message and walking the track!

CARDINAL HOUR(12 p.m. - 1 p.m.):  Cardinal Elementary will be in the spotlight for one hour during Relay.  Cardinal staff will be in the dunk tank and the ORFF program will perform.

Survivor Hour (5 p.m. - 8 p.m.): Survivors and their families will enjoy activities and dinner.  If you or someone you know is a survivor, please register online and look for your special invitation to the survivor dinner.

Luminaria Ceremony (9:30 p.m.): Walk the track a final time and observe the luminaria bags to remember loved ones.

Closing Ceremony (Midnight): Hear the final results of funds raised and special awards given to teams.

There will be food booths, live music, games, and bounce houses - fun for the whole family!  And if you haven't yet signed up, PLEASE sign up for our team at relayforlife.org.  Be sure to select the Brownsburg Relay and the Cardinal team!

A NOTE FROM THE NURSE

We are so excited for our upcoming summer break! With the end of the school year being just around the corner, we want to send out a reminder in regards to medications and medical forms.

Medications: All medications will need to either be sent home with the student or picked up by a parent or guardian by the last day of school no later than 4:00 pm or the medications will be destroyed. Medications that are being sent home will be placed in a sealed envelope and given to the student at the end of the day to be taken home in their backpack.
  • All controlled substances may not be sent home with a student and will have to be picked up by a parent or guardian. Please work with your school nurse to try and get an exact count of medication so there are no leftovers at the end of the year.
  • Daily and emergency medications will be sent home on the last day of school.
  • Medications that are used infrequently will be sent home throughout the last week of school.
Forms: We will be sending out Allergy Action plans, Diabetic Plans, Asthma Action Plans, Seizure Plans and Hold Harmless forms to all students who have required them this school year. All of these forms have to be filled out for each new school year. Our hopes are by sending the forms out before summer break, it will make it easier to get the forms ready for the next school year as many students see their doctors or specialist during this time. You may bring back completed forms and medication to the supply drop off night before the 1st day of school.

If you should misplace a form or need one at any time during the school year, you may find medical forms on the Brownsburg Community School Corporation Website.

We hope you have a great summer! Please feel free to call if you have any questions!
