Principal's Message
Cardinal Families!
Today ends the first full week of school. I can imagine your child was a bit tired this week as I know my own children are still getting used to the school schedule. Our students continue to come to school with smiles on their faces excited for what their teachers have planned for them.
This week teachers gave our students a reading assessment call the DIBELS test. This assessment informs teachers how well a student is reading and if there are areas where a student needs additional support. We utilize this reading data to help us plan lessons and provide the necessary support or extension for our students. Please contact your child's teacher should you have any questions.
I have already seen many parent volunteers in our school supporting our teachers and students. We can always use an extra set of hands to help make copies, display student work, work with students, or even cut out materials. If you are interested in volunteering, please be sure to contact your child's teacher or our PSG. It's because of support like this that we are able to do so many great things for our students.
Many parents enjoy eating lunch with their children during the school day. This is a fun time for our students as well because they are allowed to eat on the stage. I would like to inform you of our expectations. Students are allowed to invite one friend to eat with them on the stage with their parents. Students should be seated and eating the entire time. If younger siblings attend lunch as well, please be sure these children are seated as we don't want someone to get hurt on the stage. We also ask that cell phones be put away and that no pictures be taken during lunch. We want to respect the privacy of all of our students. Thank you for helping us by following and reinforcing these expectations with your child.
At Cardinal we use a clip chart for our behavior management system. This chart is used to recognize students for making great choices, but it is also used if a student happens to make a poor choice. Students move their individual clothes pins up or down based on the choices they make and when a teacher informs them to do so. The clip chart is fluid so students may move their clips down for a choice made in the morning, but after making better choices, they are able to move their clips back up, or vice versa. Because we feel that reaching the top of the clip chart is such an extraordinary accomplishment, each week we recognize these students. The students' names are read aloud over the announcements, they receive a reward, and their pictures are put on our Red Wall of Fame. I also recognize these students in my weekly email. This week we celebrate these students:
