Clinton Morgan

Clinton Morgan came to Career Development after graduating from Stigler High School in Stigler, Oklahoma in 2005. He attended Washington University in St. Louis and blended his interest in Spanish Literature as a major with his desire to pursue medicine as a career. At WashU, Clinton was heavily involved in student leadership, laboratory chronic pain research, and even ultimately met his now wife, Laura, in Spanish class. After being admitted to Vanderbilt School of Medicine, Clinton developed a strong interest in Neurosurgery, and pioneered numerous research efforts including reporting on predictors of post-concussion syndrome in young athletes and how pediatric cardiac surgery affects neurodevelopment; this and other research resulted in 40 national peer-reviewed publications, abstracts, and podium presentations. Clinton continued his chronic pain research after being named a Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) Research Fellow. During this time, Clinton co-developed a wireless spinal cord stimulator which selectively modulates pain, a project for which he now co-holds a US patent pending. In May 2016, Clinton graduated with Honors with his M.D. and will train at the prestigious Barrow Neurological Institute for his formal Neurosurgery residency. Clinton attributes a significant amount of his success to the Choctaw Nation, as he learned critical work ethic, humility, and interpersonal skills as a janitor and laborer for 6 summers at the Kiamichi Technology Center through the Choctaw National Youth Work Program. Additionally, he would like to thank Cynthia Martin and the Career Development group for their critical advisory and financial support during this journey.

My brother-in-law Anthony asked me to write about this topic. He
and my sister regularly contribute to their Flexible Spending
Accounts (FSAs) at work. Let's just say Anthony had a recent laser tag accident and his FSA really came in handy.

What is a FSA?
A FSA is a benefit offered by your employer, which allows you to
put aside money before taxes to cover healthcare expenses like
deductibles, copayments,
and coinsurance. While you are not
allowed to use them to pay for health insurance premiums, you can use them to cover prescription drug costs
and overthecounter
medicine for which you need a doctor's prescription.
