Suffolk Law's annual alumni-student networking reception is Tuesday, April 4th from 6:00 to 8:00p.m. in the Grand Ballroom of the Omni Parker House Hotel. This is your best opportunity to practice your networking skills, meeting alumni eager to help mentor you as you progress in defining and obtaining your career goals. At this formal reception, alumni will gather around tables by practice areas and you'll be provided a list of attendees by table to assist you in finding alumni of interest.  To attend, prior reservation on Symplicity and business attire (suit) is required. Sign up this week as space may be limited based on demand.

104: The number of alumni who pre-registered to attend the reception before the end of Spring Break.  This number continues to grow!

28%: The percentage of employed 2016 graduates who reported getting their jobs through networking.

5: The number of different passed hors d'oeuvres on the menu. This event not only is a great opportunity to sample the hotel's best fare, but practice meeting professionals at a formal cocktail reception.

1: To prepare, each participant will receive one drink ticket. As with any professional event, you never over indulge!

You: This is the easiest, most fun way to invest in your future.  It can be hard to walk into a room of professionals and start up conversations, but it is expected of attorneys and most all professionals in any field. This is your chance to practice with a group of people who are there because they want to meet you and help answer your questions or guide you in any way they can. Don't miss out! RSVP today!

To reserve your space, name tag, and drink ticket for the event, you must RSVP on Symplicity. Click on the 'Events' tab and then 'Programs.' On the next page you will see a list of upcoming programs. • Sales Representative and Distributor Liability in Medical Device Litigation - Thursday, March 23, 12:30 to 1:00pm, BBA. Plaintiffs are becoming increasingly adept at developing theories against sales representatives and distributors in medical device litigation.  They name local defendants in lawsuits as a mechanism for keeping cases in state court, the less-preferred jurisdiction of large corporations. Also, allegations based on the conduct of independent sales representatives are fact-based inquiries that come with risk for companies and can potentially leave them on the hook for huge damages.  The line between promoting a product, and advising a doctor on how to treat a patient, is becoming more and more blurred.  Companies can no longer rely on the well-settled learned intermediary and "captain of the ship" doctrines to keep themselves out of places they do not belong:  the doctor-patient relationship.  Rather, courts are finding ways to deny summary judgment and let juries decide whether independent representatives have overstepped their boundaries in interacting with doctors.  This is a dangerous proposition for any company defending high-stakes litigation. After this seminar, attendees will know how to best defend medical device companies and independent sales rep/distributors in product liability suits.  RSVP (SULS PDR credit)

The program will describe generally the various types of investment advisers/investment vehicles, the relevant statutes/rules/regulations, and what a securities/IM lawyer does, both in-house and at a firm.  The program will also discuss the role of broker-dealers, the statutes/regulations/rules that govern them, and what broker-dealer attorneys do, both in-house and at a firm.  RSVP (SULS PDR credit)

  • Pro Bono Training: Immigration Detention 101 - Monday, March 27, 12:30 to 2:30pm, BBA. The training will cover immigration law basics and immigration detention, and focus on how to assist clients gain release from detention by requesting bond from an immigration judge. You'll learn the basics of eligibility, gathering documents, how to present a case, and post-grant procedures.
