Storm Preparation:
As an avid weather watcher, I have had a very busy past few days. The destruction in the Caribbean and south Florida is a sad sight to behold. I have a special place in my heart for those that lose their home in a natural disaster. If you were not a customer almost 10 years ago, you may not know that we lost our home to a tornado March 15, 2008. Julie and I had a young marriage, no children, and a dream to grow this farming thing. We had ordered 2000 chickens, but now there was no house on the property. We built our first free range chicken barn before we even rebuilt the house. I remember literally connecting the water lines as we were unloading chickens. We commuted to take care of the chickens as we started the clean-up, demolition, and new construction. The two years after the tornado are a big fuzzy blur in my memory. Now, almost 10 years later, we are on the other side of that disaster with a nice home, three beautiful children, and we are still working on this farming thing. I will say several prayers for those affected by this and any disaster, and I will help in any way I can. Ultimately, I believe in the resilience of the human spirit. If you or a loved one have been affected by this storm, you will make it through. There may be a long road and some fuzzy memories ahead, but you will make it through. Likely even stronger than before.
Now it's time for me to go tie down all of our mobile chicken shelters. Chicken don't have quite the resilient spirit that we humans have.
