REMINDER: Order deadline is Noon the day before we deliver:
Vegetable Shares are now available. Getting signed up for your weekly or biweekly share is as simple as placing a share in your basket. This year there is no prepayment requirement for the season. Simply select if you'd like to receive your share weekly or biweekly. We will add a share to your order accordingly, and you will be billed as you receive your share.  If you need to travel, there is a hold function that allows you to put your share on hold while you are out of town. End your share, or change your frequency as you wish, you are under no obligation. We look forward to bringing you the finest local and organic produce our area has to offer. Visit the new Carlton Farms website to order. You will find the Vegetable Share right on the homepage under featured products.   

Last weeks website launch was pretty successful. As expected there were a few small issues that we were able to work out relatively soon. We are still all ears if you see anything that need changing, or that you would like added.  Thanks again for your cooperation as we work through these small growing pains. 

Here are a few things you may find interesting about the new site. 
  • The site will show you an option for having your order delivered, but for right now we are only offering the pick-up locations that we have been using for several years. After we get comfortable with the site, we do plan to offer home delivery. So... for now choose "pickup" in the first step of the signup process. 
  • There is a recurring order function. For items that you want to purchase each week, you can place those items on recurring order.
  • Payment information will be securely stored online so you will not have to input credit card info with each order.  Yes, you can still show up to the mobile market with no order and purchase from our a-la-carte selection. 
  • There is no "check-out" process. You just add items to your basket either all at once, or throughout the week. When the order deadline passes, any items in your basket will be ordered and delivered to your pickup location.

FarmFan: Get Text Message Reminders and Receive Rewards.
As one of our Farmfans you are able to receive text message reminders, both to place your order and to come pick-up your order. You will also have the ability to check-in when you pick-up. As you accumulate check-ins you will earn rewards such as Grocery Bags, T-shirts, Discounts.

Chicks on grass!:

We moved another batch of broilers out to pasture last week and this picture is too pretty not to write about.  These are 3 week old chicks that will get to spend their days roaming and pecking through this type of pasture. We will move the bottomless structure (pasture pen) as often as is necessary to insure that these birds always have pasture available. These pasture pen moves will be every 2-3  days when the chicks are little, but will be required daily as the birds get bigger.  This is a lot of work, but If you've ever had good pasture raised chicken, you will understand why we go to this extra effort.  The percentage of a chicken's diet that they can get from grass is minimal, usually estimated at only about 10-15% on really good pasture. However, it is an important 10-15%. I believe the grass improves overall health of the bird and also has positive impacts on taste and texture. Not to mention, wouldn't we all prefer to eat chickens that were allowed to run around on the pasture eating grass and bugs while breathing fresh air? As usual there is a nutrition and a welfare component to how we design our systems. Some might ask why we don't just turn the chickens out and let them run completely free. Well, as it turns our young chickens are not yet weary to the predators that would also like to consume a chicken dinner. They are easy prey for hawks, coyotes, owls, and a variety of other animals that see a chicken as a free lunch. By using the mobile bottomless pasture pens we can provide both pasture and protection.  To us it seems like a wonderful compromise, we think the chickens would agree.
