Message About The Every 15 Minutes Program

Carondelet and De La Salle will be experiencing the Every 15 Minutes Program on Monday, March 6 and Tuesday, March 7. This program is meant for all students with a particular focus on juniors and seniors. The program c hallenges students to think about the potentially devastating effects of drinking and driving and texting while driving. All events are carefully planned and orchestrated by both schools and our community members, whose goal is to help keep our students safe.

T he program is designed to have an emotional impact on students, and parents can play an important role at home. Some students may be visibly upset by the events, while others may seem quiet or indifferent. Please know that there will be support measures in place at the school throughout the program. You can also review the special schedules for both days here.

We thank you in advance for your support and generosity of spirit.
Tech-Savvy Students Learn the Ropes at Startup Grind
On Tuesday, February 21, a group of students attended the Startup Grind Global Conference in Redwood City. The conference brings together entrepreneurs from around the world to help them grow their businesses. Our students had the opportunity to practice networking skills with various startup representatives. Founders in AI, cloud, fintech, health, and B2C gave students tips on how to be successful in the startup world as well as advice on what classes they should take and internships they should pursue. The students also heard from the Founder and CEO of Chobani, Hamdi Ulukaya, about his own path to building a highly successful business and strategies for achieving their own dreams. From left to right: Isis Tolson '19, Christina Abudayeh '19, Delaney Dunn '19, Courtney Lally '18, Alyssa Dunn '18, Brianna Dunn '18, Geline Mascardo '18, Arianna Modesti '18, Kelsey Dempsey '18
Students Get an Insider's Look at Washington on Close Up

Top Row: Maddie Guasch '17, Abbie Young '18, Allison Haley '18, Josephine Vilchez '18, Alexandra Urrutia '18, Sophia Veran-Sanchez '18 and Aubrie Haley '18, Bottom Row: Charolette Woo '18, Alexa Castillo '17, Haley Chimienti '17 and Kathryn Walsh '18

Last week, students from Carondelet and De La Salle flew to Washington, D.C. to participate in Close Up. Through this program, our students had the opportunity to meet with our Congressman, Mark DeSaulnier, sit in the gallery and watch Sen. John McCain participate in a debate on the Senate floor and meet other high school students from around the country. Our students had a great time exploring D.C., learning more about how our government works, and making new friends along the way.

"The trip far exceeded my expectations. I loved being able to learn beyond what is in our textbooks. It is one thing reading and hearing about what is happening in our government, but it's another being able to see what is going on first hand. The people I met and the places we visited will leave a lasting impression on me," said Aubrie Haley '18.
Students Unite and Celebrate at Black History Month Assembly

In honor of Black History Month, the Carondelet community was treated to an inspiring assembly organized by Carondelet and De La Salle's Black Student Union last Thursday. Students shared African American culture and experiences through spoken word, African and modern dances, and biographical presentations.

"To say that the assembly was a success is an understatement; it was both moving and impactful," said BSU co-moderator Mrs. Cutright. The school community thanks the students who dedicated their time and talent to the overall enhancement of our community.

Niaja Nolan '17 reflected on the experience saying, "More than anything, this assembly was meaningful because it highlighted the work that I have put in over the past four years at Carondelet to help open conversations about the complex topic of race and to help educate the community. I  hope people gained a deeper knowledge of black history and culture, and that black history is American history."
Women of Heart Attend the Annual Mother-Daughter Retreat

On Sunday, Feb. 26, women of heart from across generations came together to celebrate the annual Mother-Daughter Retreat. Students, alumnae, mothers, aunts and grandmothers were able to spend the day reflecting on and strengthening their relationships. Thank you to everyone who attended and made this such a beautiful event.

When asked what inspired them about the event, participants said:

"It was a gathering of women, older generations and younger generations...sharing their stories..."

"A special time to spend with my daughter where the focus is on our relationship both as family and spiritually."

"This retreat gave us the time to slow down and cherish this time together..."

"I learned more about my mom's love for me--what a blessing. I got to know my mom a lot more..."
