Be still, then, and know that I am God; *
    I will be exalted among the nations;
    I will be exalted in the earth."
The L ORD of hosts is with us; *
    the God of Jacob is our stronghold. -Ps. 46

Please join us in prayer, as you are able:
7pm tonight, St. James Lutheran Church, 2500 Shasta View Drive

Dear friends in Christ,

We continue to pray today, and to witness the unimaginable: unimaginable destruction, and unimaginable grace. We don't know what is coming next, we only know that fire still burns out of control, inside our city. It would be so much easier if there were something to do, but--again today--our work is to watch and wait, and trust in God.

Today, I received Bishop Beisner's blessing, and the gift of resources to help us withstand the elements, gifts of flashlight and breathing masks, bottled water, and material support for those who need it. If you or your family are in need, please do reach out by replying to this email, or calling or texting my mobile phone.

If you are in harm's way and you have not heard from us, it may be that we do not know how to reach you. We do not have mobile phone contact information for every parishioner. Please check in with me, or someone at All Saints, and let us that we can help, or that you have what you need for now. The Thrift Shop was open earlier today, giving away clothing for anyone in need, thanks to Betty Harrison-Smith, Bob Wilson, and Helen.

Some All Saints' parishioners have learned that they've lost their homes, and some know that their homes been spared for now, most can only wonder for now. We know that the All Saints' church building stands undamaged this afternoon, though it is still off limits, and the danger has not yet passed. Some of us are optimistic, others are wary of what's next. The truth is that we are still experiencing an on-going trauma. I believe God's grace is to be found in this: we need each other.

Let us gather together tonight to give thanks for our lives, to grieve our tragic losses, and to pray for God's protection in the night ahead. I give thanks for the hospitality of Pastor Bob Swartz, who has invited the good people of All Saints to pray together in the sacred space of St. James Lutheran Church.

In the meantime, I pray that you will know God's grace is sufficient.
I hope to see you tonight at St. James' -Carren

I appealed to the Lord about this, that it would leave me, but he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for power is made perfect in weakness.’ So, I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me. 1 Therefore I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities for the sake of Christ; for whenever I am weak, then I am strong.
