Mu Tar K'Paw Gardens



Tri Sa and Cing Neam were both farmers in Burma before coming to North Carolina.  They grow at Transplanting Traditions Community Farm without chemicals, using cover crops and mulch to protect the soil, save water, and increase fertility.  They work the land by hand or sometimes with a walk-behind tiller. Tri Sa's daughters Tha Dah Wah and P'saw Wah also help out on the farm and at the Market.
 
Fun Facts


 

 "Mu Tar K'Paw" roughly translates to, "Everything comes from sunlight. Everyone needs sunshine."


 

 Tri Sa's biggest accomplishment of her life in the U.S. is seeing her daughters going to college.


 

 Cing Neam's family had a large farm in Burma where they grew wet rice, as well as many other vegetables such as corn, potatoes, and yellow beans.  She used to drive to Maryland to sell her vegetables to the Chin community there and is excited to be selling in Carrboro now!

Happy Friday!

It is looking like a beautiful sunny morning at Market! With Mother's Day and UNC Graduation all in one weekend, we are looking forward lots of smiling faces this Saturday! We hope your weekend includes some quality time with your grads and moms, and what better way to kick it off than a family trip to the Market! We've got gorgeous flowers, all the  ingredient  you need for a special home-cooked meal, tons of plant starts for a weekend of fun in the garden,  and lots of sweet and savory treats and artisan goods. 

The INDY just released its 2016 guide to dining in the triangle, called EATS, and you'll notice a Carrboro Farmers' Market vendor on almost every page! Essentially the whole issue about local food, and here are a few of the articles featuring our Market vendors.  Be sure to pick up a free copy soon around town! 

Till 'Em All - A candid, no fluff look at what it is like to be a small scale farmers from the perspective of John Soehner of Eco Farm and George O'Neal of Lil Farm. 

Root Grafts - This article showcases the ingenuity of local farmers that are growing ingredients you've never heard of for immigrant populations and adventurous chefs and artisans! It features Alex and Besty Hitt of Peregrine Farm and Tri Sa of Mu Tar K'Paw Gardens.

Our Favorite Things - No surprise to us, Two Chicks Farm made the INDY's top ten list of favorite artisans in the triangle!

Yay for mom!  Congratulations to the graduates!  We will have lots of beautiful, old fashioned  flowers to help celebrate this special weekend.  Gorgeous peonies in varying shades of pink and  red.  Spicy scented stock in pink, purple, apricot and cream.  Long snapdragons in orange and red.

Two sizes of mixed bouquets and maybe more.  We should have some dill and cilantro as well.

We have fresh and aged cheeses this week. Tomatoes are coming in and we'll have  Fresh Mozzarella to go in Caprese salad or on a pizza.    

Our  Hickory Grove is mild but savory; it is a washed rind cheese that is not as strong as its stinky cousins but has a lot of flavor. Good for snacking; it also makes a great grilled cheese or omelet. Other cheeses to sample and buy include fresh Dairyland Farmers,   7 1/2 month old Calvander which is similar to an Asiago, ripe  Carolina Moon, semi-ripe  New Moon, Smoked Farmers, and  Pheta

Our popular and flavorful sausage include  Breakfast Country Sausage in bulk,  Sage and Maple Breakfast in links, Bratwurst, Hot Italian, Mild Italian. We'll also have our spare ribs, bacon, and flavorful ground beef.

Everything we sell comes from our farm where we tend to the pastures, the young calves, the adult cows, and the whey fed pigs. Try the Hickory Grove or the Smoked Farmers for a cheeseburger, or grill our sausage for a delicious Italian sub or to add to greens and polenta.

I hope you all have had a fabulous week! Dawnbreaker Farms will be at market this week with abundance of GMO Free meat and eggs from our pigs, chickens and turkeys. 

I personally will have to leave around  7:30 am so I will miss many of you but you will get to see our good friend Mike who covered for me a few weeks back.

We'll be at market this weekend with more greens including Lettuce, Mustard Greens, Pac Choi and three types of Kale (Dino, Scarlett and Green Curly).  We'll have Radishes and more Broccolini and the first of the Fennel and Kohlrabi.  As always, we'll have Rainbow and Spicy Microgreens and Sunflower and Pea Shoots.  We will be taking a break from the micros and shoots for two weeks so stock up this week and expect their return on  May 28th

This week we have a great selection of ferments: Classic Sauerkraut, Caraway Kraut, JalapeƱo Kraut, Kimchi, Dill Kraut 'n Pickles, Cortido, Beet & Ginger Kraut, Spicy Ginger & Garlic Kraut, Indian Spiced Kraut, Spicy Banana Peppers, and JalapeƱos. We will also have water kefir soda ( flavors: strawberry, ginger, and sunshine).  In addition we will have Pickled Ginger, Pickled Beets, Bread 'n Butter Pickles, Mild Pepper Jelly, Ginger Pepper Jelly and Spicy Pepper Jelly. Carolina Farmhouse Dairy  will be at Market this week! 
 
A first generation dairy in North Durham, milking a small, Animal Welfare Approved herd of Jersey cows and making Grade A yogurt.  We are transitioning to Certified Organic which means all of our practices must be organic for two years - at which point our first generation of calves start producing milk.  Meanwhile, you can be sure that these cows get the bulk of their nutrition from grazing on pastures, and are supplemented with Non-GMO, Certified Organic feed from Reedy Fork Organic Feed in Elon, North Carolina.  All of our toppings use certified organic ingredients as well.  For more about us, please find us on Facebook, Carolina Farmhouse Dairy and our website is www.carolinafarmhousedairy.com
