What's Happening at Market

Happy Wednesday!

It looks like we will get a break from the storms today for a nice overcast Wednesday Market. As far as I know, most farmers have come through the recent storms with just minor damages. Some crops took a beating from the hail last week - you might have noticed that Turtle Run Farm was having a "hail sale" on some of his greens at Market last Saturday.  Hopefully we get a break from the heavy rain, strong winds, and hail for a while, and our farmers can sleep a little better at night!

Strawberry season is in full swing, and NOW is the time to stock up for making jam and freezing. The season started extra early this year, and there could be just a few more good weeks of abundant berries! If you are planning on u-picking, get out there soon! There is no better way to spend Mother's Day weekend! Check out these gorgeous berries ready to be picked last weekend at McAdam's Farm. We will be celebrating strawberry season in a big way with our Strawberry Jamboree on Saturday, May 14th. See details below!

New vendor South Wind Produce joined us at Market last Wednesday, and we are so excited to have them! They had gorgeous greens and other produce last week, and be sure to stop by and say hello to Angie today!

Looking forward to seeing you there!

Chapel Hill Creamery
Chapel Hill Creamery will be at Market this week!

We love this is old photo of our young heifers; it shows how they form their own herd and stick together. We always have several grouping of cows based on age and whether or not they are in the milking herd.

We are bringing more  Fresh Mozzarella this week as the greenhouse tomatoes are more abundant. Use mozzarella for a salad or melt over crusty bread or add to pasta. It is soft, tender, and milky. It has a rich flavor from our Jersey cows' milk, and the golden color from the carotene in the grass the cows are grazing makes it look different from what you might find in the grocery store.

Other cheeses to sample and buy include fresh Dairyland Farmers,  Hickory Grove, 7 1/2 month old Calvander, ripe and creamy Carolina Moon, semi-ripe New Moon, Smoked Farmers, and Pheta. Our Hickory Grove is mild but savory; it is a washed rind cheese that is not as strong as its stinky cousins but has a lot of flavor. Good for snacking; it makes a great grilled cheese or omelet.

Our popular and flavorful sausage include Breakfast Country Sausage in bulk, Sage and Maple Breakfast in links, Bratwurst, Hot Italian, Mild Italian. We'll also have our spare ribs, bacon, and flavorful ground beef.

Everything we sell comes from our farm where we tend to the pastures, the young calves, the adult cows, and the whey fed pigs. Sample some cheese and try the sausage in pasta or and Italian sub or beef for a great cheeseburger.
