Greetings!
Carroll Museums has embarked on a new campaign to restore, renew, and reopen the Phoenix Shot Tower and transform it into one of Baltimore's leading cultural destinations. We've entitled our effort The Phoenix Challenge, and I hope you will help us make it a success.
The Phoenix Shot Tower is quintessential Baltimore. A product of our city's innovative and industrious past, its distinct silhouette enlivens local streetscapes and advertisements, logos and travel blogs. Visitors are drawn to its mystery. Locals nurture a fierce pride for its uniqueness.
Everybody wants to go inside.
The Tower's future holds great potential - as a magnet for visitors, an economic contributor, and a feather in Baltimore's cultural cap. The Phoenix Challenge will lead us to this vision with:
- Better access
- Dynamic STEM educational programs
- Complete restoration
The Phoenix Challenge is ambitious, exciting and very worthwhile. As the last shot tower in Baltimore, and only one of a few left nationwide, it is truly a one-of-a-kind icon. The Tower is a National Landmark. We have the opportunity to light it for all to enjoy!
There will be a number of events, programs, and updates as we pursue The Phoenix Challenge. I invite you to visit our website, www.thephoenixchallenge.org that will be going live very soon. At the site, you can can sign up for The Phoenix Challenge Email List, track our progress and find ways to get involved. Our first Challenge events are detailed below.
See you at the Tower,
Paula Hankins Executive Director
