Seen at Michaelmas 2016
Michaelmas, as it is observed in Waldorf schools, is the "festival of courage" celebrated as the earth traverses the tail end of the late summer meteor showers and the northern hemisphere begins to tilt away from the sun. Michael, the archangel who inspires courage, is associated with this festival time. Carver celebrated Michaelmas on Sept. 29 with 3rd graders from Alice Birney and AM Winn. There were games of courage, music, chalk drawings and a festive dragon pageant.

PSAT for All 10th Graders
All sophomores in Sacramento City Unified School District schools take the PAST exam on Wednesday, October 19. This test is paid for by the school district.

On test day, Carver students report to school as usual and go to the gym to take the practice college entry exam. Juniors who wish to take the test -- which is a qualifier for the National Merit Scholarship -- may register in the front office and pay the $15 test fee.

Preparation booklets from the College Board will be sent home with students. In the meantime, review and practice at collegereadiness.collegeboard.org/psat-nmsqt-psat-10/practice.
2016 Election
Sacramento voters in November will be asked to weigh in on two measures - Proposition 55 and Measure G - that affect funding to Sacramento City Unified School District.

Proposition 55 extends income taxes on California's wealthiest earners but doesn't raise taxes for anyone. Money from Proposition 55 goes directly to school districts. Measure G is a parcel tax that will help fund programs for struggling students and help bring the arts to all schools.

More information about Measure G and Proposition 55.
The deadline to register to vote is Oct. 24. ( Check your registration status online.)
