Message from the Principal: Thank You!

Thank you all for making Back to School Night a success. It was wonderful to welcome our new families and introduce you to the school. There are many ways for everyone to be a part of our community, and we encourage everyone to participate at Carver.

We have regular needs at school in the garden and library if you want to help out during the school day. We need parent help throughout the year on other kinds of projects-like volunteering at various events. We need tailors and irrigation specialists, we need people who can help us advertise and recruit new families. Whatever you love to do - we would love for you to share with us. The Parent Guild is collecting parent information sheets* so that they can fill the school needs with parent expertise and interest.

Please considering giving us some of your time. Together, we make our community strong.

Warmly,
After School Gardening

After School Gardening is meeting every Monday and Wednesday from 3:20 p.m. to 4:50 p.m.  It's a great time to play in the dirt, learn about sprinkler repair and hang out with cool people in nature!  Students receive double community service hours for participating. If you have questions contact Mme. Fain at [email protected]. No prior knowledge or notice is required, just show up at room 501 and say, "I'm here!"  We'd love to have you join us.

The Eggs Have Arrived!

Twenty-four eggs arrived on campus today to repopulate the chicken coop!  Forty-plus students looked on while the seven day "candling" took place.  Candling is when an intense light is shone through each egg to see if it is viable. Reports Mme. Fain, "We looked for veins along the shell, but could also already see movement in some of the eggs!" The eggs will be rechecked at 14 days and we expect our new flock to break out on October 2016!  Stay tuned for more on EGG WATCH 2016!
UC Santa Cruz Saturday Tours

Carver students and their families are invited to visit the University of Califor nia, Santa Cruz campus for one of our Fall Saturday Tours on October 29 or November 12, 2016.

This student-led campus tour event will provide prospective students with a general introduction to academic and campus opportunities. An Admissions presentation covering freshman and transfer admissions will be followed by a brief student panel and an all-walking campus tour.

Reservations must be made in advance online. It is recommended that your students sign up as soon as possible, since the tours will fill up fast. (Please note that UC Santa Cruz will not be offering a Preview Day in fall 2016.)

For students who cannot visit the campus this fall, an online virtual tour is available in five languages.

Parent Volunteer Opportunities

Calling FOOD FAIRIES!

The staff at Carver work so hard to bring a wonderful educational experience. The GWC Parent Guild would like to have families volunteer to bring a healthful snack for the staff to enjoy at their weekly staff meetings.

Food can be dropped off in the Staff Lounge (either on the table or in the fridge if it needs to stay cold). Please label it as "Food Fairies" and delivered to the office by 2 p.m.
