My Job at the Oscars
Carver graduate Carly Gretler currently works at ABC7 in the programming department as a production assistant in Los Angeles. Carly helps produce two 30-minute weekly magazine shows, "Eye on L.A." and " Vista L.A." The department she works in also produces special event shows such as the Oscars pre-show "On the Red Carpet" and the post-show (the network produces the award ceremony.)

Carly's job at the Oscars was to make sure all our various positions had all the equipment, food and water they needed. "We had a position on the balcony, a position on the bridge and on the carpet itself,"said Carly. "I was also in charge of making sure the talent was in hair and make-up on time and that those who needed to were all in Tuxedos (if you are on the carpet you have to look formal, hence the tuxes)." Carly also served as a stand in for the talent. "Meaning, I would pretend to be the talent so that the cameras could practice and everyone back in the production trailer could practice their transitions as well."

Even though the show was on a Sunday, Carly and crew were there on Hollywood Boulevard prepping starting Friday. "It is the largest production I have ever been on," said Carly. "It was truly an amazing experience and seeing all the celebrities in person didn't hurt."
