Submit your suggestion for naming the new elementary!
The District is asking YOU for suggestions on naming the new elementary school.

The District is taking suggestions from students, staff, parents and community members. Suggested names can be submitted starting September 16 until September 30. At that time a committee will review all the suggestions and narrow the list to be recommended to the Board of Education for discussion. The Board of Education will make the final determination for the building name.

National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists Announced
The Cedar Falls Community School District is very proud to recognize and congratulate four high school seniors for being named semifinalists in the 2017 National Merit Scholarship Program.  The semifinalists are:

Emily Fishel

Kevin Wu


According to the National Merit Scholarship Program, these academically talented high school seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,500 National Merit Scholarships worth about $33 million that will be offered next spring.

Hansen Elementary's 600 students honored 9/11 
by singing the National Anthem, reciting the Pledge of Allegiance 
and honoring those who lost their lives with a moment of silence.
Construction Updates
The District will post regular updates on the construction projects at North Cedar Elementary, Orchard Hill Elementary and the new elementary in southwest Cedar Falls on the District website.

Tentative Timeline
Fall 2016 - The Board of Education approved the grading package for the new elementary site.

Fall 2016 - Grading begins at new elementary site.

Fall 2016 - Administrators and teachers work to finalize design of three projects.

Spring 2017 - Package of design and development for the three projects will be bid.

Spring/Summer 2017 - All three projects begin construction.

August 2018 - New elementary completed.

March 2019 - Orchard Hill Elementary completed,  due to complexity of project it will take longer to finish.

August 2019 - North Cedar Elementary completed, due to complexity of project it will take longer to finish.

Golden Age Pass
The Cedar Falls Community School District reminds residents the offer of lifetime
FREE admittance to all home Cedar Falls High School activities (does not include playoffs or state sponsored activities and music, except the musical) for those residents age 62 or above and retired.
 
Passes can be picked up in the main office at Cedar Falls High School, 1015 Division Street. Office hours are Monday-Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Please contact Chelsea Steffy at 319-553-2585 with questions.
 
Passes will no longer be distributed through the Cedar Falls Recreation Center.
 
"This pass is a great way for us to give back to the community," said Dr. Andy Pattee, Superintendent. "We know there are many seniors who follow our teams, attend our events and have tremendous support for the district and our students. We encourage them all to c ome support the Tigers for FREE!"

Cedar Valley Family STEM Festival
2016 Cedar Valley Family STEM Festival
Thursday, November 10
4-7:30 p.m.
Five Sullivan Brothers Convention Center, Waterloo
The festival is free and open to the public. 

Over 70 organizations from the Cedar Valley and throughout Iowa will present exhibits and hands-on activities for kids pre-K through 12 and their families. Attendees can drive robots, conduct amazing science experiments and much more! In addition, the festival showcases STEM programs in local schools and offer interactive specialty shows throughout the evening.

Board Brief

Watch the September 12 meeting.

The next Cedar Falls Schools Board of Education meeting will be September 26, 7 p.m. at Cedar Falls City Hall and will be shown on Cedar Falls Channel 15.  Agendas, documents and materials for all board of education meetings can be found on the Cedar Falls Schools website . Watch previous meetings on the District's YouTube Channel.

The School District is looking for bus drivers.
Join our team and be a part of the driving force behind education!
 
Cedar Falls Schools is looking for candidates who possess a good driving record and who have or the ability to obtain their Commercial Drivers License (CDL). Candidates will be required to obtain their CDL, but District will assist in process. District will provide required State of Iowa School Bus training for candidates who have successfully obtained their CDL.
