BCD Hoover Treatment Center offers a new holistic approach to addressing sobriety. BCD has an added health and wellness component that allows individuals to focus on healing the mind, body, and soul. In addition to meditation, breathing exercises, and occasionally nutrition classes, we are now offering (2) new sessions once a week to clients in the program. 

W.O.W Fitness
Kameelah Harris, Certified Personal Trainer & Licensed Zumba Instructor leads the fun & energetic fitness session once a week at our EmPowerment Center. It's Hip Hop Cardio blended with a touch of Zumba followed by Tai Chi movements, meditation & stretching. The sessions provide a full body workout that engages the heart, body and soul.

Tai Chi Brings Calm to Treatment
Welcome Back Dr. Rasheed

We welcome Dr. Al assad Rasheed back! Dr. Rasheed has been working with BCD for some years with a focus on Health and Wellness. He has served the community providing research studies, knowledge of mindfulness, and the act of being present. Today Dr. Rasheed offers Tai Chi with our Hoover Treatment Center once a week, teaching the act of finding one's center and become one with self.   Each class session is about an hour long and encourages self love.

Through this gentle form of exercise our clients can access the benefits of Tai Chi improving their mood, lowering levels of depression, stress, and anxiety.  Tai Chi is often described as meditation in motion.  Dr. Rasheed uses a beginners pace with slow movements to builds muscle strength, energy and stamina enhancing flexibility, balance and agility along with great benefits for the mind, body, and soul. 
Black Panther Challenge

Better Community Development, Inc. teamed up with the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity for a fundraiser to send 250 youth to see the new Marvel movie Black Panther! Black Panther is an action packed science fiction movie that depicts African Americans in a positive light.

The movie stars Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong'o, Danai Gurira, Martin Freeman, Daniel Kaluuya, Letitia Wright, Winston Duke, Angela Bassett, Forest Whitaker, and Andy Serkis.

YIP Open House Night

Charlie Bruce, YIP Coordinator, and BCD Activity Center staff held Open House for BCD's YIP Program offering positive program for youth in the community. He spoke with parents and youth discussing opportunities available to youth through the program. Twenty-two children and parents attended the Open House. 

As an alternative to at-risk male youth between the ages of 13 - 19 years old in the Midtown Community, our YIP site provides opportunities for young men to learn positive social skills including violence prevention, conflict resolution, and drug abuse education. 

FREE Activities Include : 
Movies, Skating, Bowling, basket ball, video games, Technology Enrichment, Trips, Cultural enrichment, Outdoor activities, Much More!!


YIP  Days of Operation: Monday - Friday
After School Hours: 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm 
Summer Hours: 9:00 am - 6:00 pm

We are currently seeking a passionate, professional and experienced substance abuse counselor to join our clinical team and play a key role in educating, advising and effectively guiding clients through our program of treatment.

Substance Abuse Counselor
POSITION TYPE: Full/Part Time Exempt 

The Substance Abuse Counselor Performs client evaluation and assessment interviews to determine necessity and level of treatment; refers to other programs as appropriate; with client participation, develops individualized treatment plans for review by treatment team; reviews progress and updates plans at intervals based upon program requirement; conducts and documents individual counseling sessions as required; conducts and documents group counseling, including psycho-education, therapeutic process and relapse prevention group sessions; coordinates client treatment with the Clinical Team, program coordinators and other staff as appropriate; develops aftercare plans and discharge summaries; presents educational lectures for client groups as directed; participates in weekly clinical supervision meetings; presents on topics of expertise as requested; performs crisis intervention work and/or prepares families or employers for planned interventions as necessary; and completes documentation and reports in a legible, accurate and timely fashion. 

Minimum Requirements

 - Bachelor's degree (Preferred) 
 - Existing substance abuse credential (i.e. CADC) or immediately                      
   eligible  for  such credential
 - Registration with Arkansas Substance Abuse Certification Board (ASACB)
