EARLY CHILDHOOD ED STUDENTS CHANGE LIVES
Valentines Day Lunch Benefits Smile Train

CTE Instructor and Educators Rising Advisor, Bonnie Stull said this is the 5th year her Early Childhood Education students participated in a service learning activity to benefit children born with a common birth defect.  Prior, MaryEllen Hardin did ta similar activity at Pueblo for at least 10 years. Stull also said: "cleft lip is the 4th most common birth defect in the U.S.; Pueblo's Educators Rising chapter voted to fund 2 surgeries through Smile Train."

When asked what one surprising benefit was, Stull said:" teachers see/interact with their students in a different light, different than the classroom setting: polite, efficient, conscientious; students see their teachers in a different setting too."

Educators Rising Arizona is the career and technical student organization for Early Childhood Education programs that focus on providing personal and professional development opportunities for high school students who aspire to become future educators.~ AZ. Dept of Education

"Smile Train is an international children's charity that provides 100%-free cleft repair surgery and comprehensive cleft care to children in 85+ developing countries. Our sustainable model empowers local doctors to provide cleft care in their own communities."
"Millions of children in developing countries are suffering from untreated clefts. Most cannot eat or speak properly and aren't allowed to attend school or hold a job."

The Pueblo High chapter of Educators Rising funded 2 surgeries through this service learning project.

Early Childhood Education Students at Pueblo High  transformed their CTE classroom into a bistro for a good cause.
