On Saturday, August 8th, the National Lighthouse will continue to celebrate Lighthouse Weekend with several free events for all.


 

11:00 am Meet the Author and Book Signing.

  • Bring your children to meet Gregory E. Zschomler author of the children's book "Louie the Lonely Lighthouse." Forgotten. A relic. Louie despairs until, one dark and stormy night, his mighty light saves the day. Greg is a digital artist and the author of eight books including the Bayou Boys Adventure series, The Amish vs. The Zombies for older teens, and the children's picture book "I'm Samson," said Sydney. He lives on the north Oregon coast with two kids and his wife of 32 years.

  • Charles Vanderhoop III, grandson of Mr. Charles Vanderhoop, Sr., Keeper of the Gay Head Light Station and first Native American to serve as a head keeper with the USLHS, will speak to us about his grandfather and his lighthouse keeping exploits. Charles Vanderhoop, Sr. will receive the National Lighthouse Museum's Past Keeper's Award posthumously at the NLM Light Keeper's Gala August 7, 2015.
  • Dr. Loren Graham, Professor at MIT and owner and Keeper of the Grand Island North Light, MI.  Many years ago he and his wife Dr. Patricia Graham, purchased the Grand Island North Light Station on a remote island in Lake Superior and have spent their summers there writing, studying nature, and serving as Coast Guard auxiliarists who have participated in many rescue operations of stranded and wrecked mariners. Drs. Patricia and Loren Graham will be the recipients of the Modern Day Light Keeper's Award at the NLM Light Keeper's Gala August 7, 2015.
  • Hibbard Casselberry- historian and keeper of the Hillsboro Inlet Light in Florida. Mr. Casselberry will be the recipient of the Modern Day Light Keeper's Award at the NLM Light Keeper's Gala August 7, 2015. He will be sharing his knowledge of lighthouse keeping and preservation.
  • Craig Morrison, administrator of the Execution Rocks Light located in Long Island Sound, will be discussing preservation of this relic from the Revolutionary War era.
