Vineyard Update
It's that time of year, again, when the Vineyard Crew is braving the cold to prune back the 5000 vines around Mallow Run.  Pruning removes 90% of last year's growth, and leaves only enough buds to produce a quality crop this year.  Insufficient pruning would leave too many buds, producing too much fruit, and would lead to poor quality and unripe fruit at harvest next Fall.  Generally, we shoot for 40-50 good buds per vine, depending on the size and health of the vine.  We're also hoping we don't have a repeat of last year's early budbreak and subsequent frost damage.  The cold
winter so far makes a repeat very unlikely
....I guess that's one silver lining to pruning
on frigid days.
Raise your glass -
February is Heart Health Month!

Raise your glass of red wine to more awareness and prevention of heart disease and other heart health issues. Studies have shown that moderate consumption of red wines (especially dry red wines) reduce the risk of coronary heart disease due to the antioxidants (called flavonoids) that are found in these varieties. (Click here for more information about red wine's health benefits.)

In support of Heart Health Month and awareness of coronary disease prevention, Mallow Run will be offering a 25% case discount on all red wines during the month of February. The wines can be mix-and-matched, but they must all be red! So come in, stock up, and share the nutritional benefits of your favorite red wine. Who knew wine could get even better?
