2018 Give From the Heart Gala
|
|
Hundreds of guests, donors, community leaders, sponsors, and supporters joined us on April 14 at the
UCM Give From The Heart Gala
, raising $180,000 to empower our neighbors in need to transform their lives.
"It is an exciting time at UCM," Board Chair Ken Disselkoen told the crowd. "We're making changes to become the agency our community needs us to be. We have a revised mission -- to empower our neighbors in need to transform their lives. Our vision is a community where everyone thrives."
We exend a special thank you to our event hosts, The Friends of UCM, and to all our generous sponsors and donors.
Long-time Mount Vernon residents Joanne and Bruce Malkin were presented with the 2018 UCM Gerald
W. Hyland Humanitarian Award. Retired Fairfax County Mount Vernon Supervisor Gerry Hyland, the
namesake and last year's inaugural awardee, helped to honor the Malkins for their commitment
to service and dedication to the betterment of others that enriches the community of Alexandria.

Thank You from Lorraine
When Lorraine came to UCM several years ago for help, she was homeless and could not envision any help or hope for the future.
She graciously shared her personal journey to financial stability and good health with guests at our Gala. Lorraine l
it up the room with her inspiring story:
"Without UCM, I would not be the happy, healthy person you see tonight. Thanks to the fresh food at UCM's food pantry, I am able to eat healthy even on my limited budget." Read Lorraine's story >>
