There sure is a lot to celebrate in Durham this weekend! First, don't forget to thank and spend time with the important women in your life, including your mom, grandma, sister, aunt, best friend - we all know we wouldn't be where we are today without the support of the incredible women in our lives. And we want to also give a huge congratulations to everyone graduating this weekend. Be sure to pick up everything you need for your celebration at the Market tomorrow and swing by the lawn to make a card for mom or your favorite grad!

We're also very, very excited to announce our crowdfunding campaign for the Sprouts Kid's Club.  Last year, children learned about healthy eating, supporting local farmers, and money management in our Sprouts Club at the Wednesday Market. The club will return on Wednesdays and Saturdays this year, but
we need your help to sustain the program through the season. Please consider supporting our crowdfunding campaign and  help us get the word out by e-mailing friends and family or sharing on social media. Thank you in advance for supporting this wonderful community cause!

Finally, don't forget that we've partnered with Durham Central Park and Food FWD to offer a compost drop-off service at the Market.  The cost for subscribers is $15/month and a collection bin and liners are provided. Subscribers will bring their food scraps to the Market or to Durham Central Park each week and drop everything off at the designated cart, which will be located near the dumpster on Roney Street. Food FWD  will do a compost giveaway semi-annually and will be at the Market this weekend to answer questions and register folks for the program. If you prefer to have your own compost pile at home, Food FWD will be selling buckets for purchase.  We hope you'll participate!

See you tomorrow!

Honeygirl Meadery
Honeygirl Meadery is a small urban meadery in downtown Durham, making an ancient craft beverage for modern days. Mead is essentially wine made from honey, with many different styles that include meads made with fruits, flowers and herbs. Our meads are hand-crafted libations made in small batches, using both local and global true source honey, local fruits, herbs and flowers. They are naturally gluten free.  Our downtown Durham Tasting Room is open on  Saturdays from 1-6 pm and Sundays from 1-5pm.

This week we are excited to release our Strawberry Mead at the height of strawberry season! This mead is one of our annual favorites, as it captures the strawberry season in a bottle. Our mead maker hand-picked all the strawberries for this small batch in 2016, at McAdams Farm in Efland NC. We ferment the berries with NC wildflower honey. Fresh and fragrant, light-bodied and dry, with a soft, lingering strawberry finish.

We will also be sampling our Orange Blossom Mead, summery and lightly sweet traditional mead made with honey hinted with orange; and Vanilla Mead, a vanilla-infused version of Orange Blossom mead that is best described as creamsicle.

We will also have bottles available of our Fig Orange Mead, semi-sweet mead with honey, floral, caramel and fig notes, and Spiced Apple Cyser, our apple pie mead, made from NC cider and NC wildflower honey.

Chapel Hill Creamery
We have ripe, creamy Carolina Moon for  Saturday , as well as Dairyland Farmers Cheese and Pheta. The Carolina Moon is similar to a Brie and it makes a quick and delicious appetizer for any gathering. Serve it with the fresh, tart Dairyland Farmers Cheese for a contrasting texture and add some hot pepper jelly or fresh strawberries for an appealing cheese board. Our Carolina Moon is naturally aged so that it becomes more creamy, with richer flavors over time. We can help you pick one out that is more or less soft.

Dairyland Farmers Cheese is a fresh, slightly tart cheese, popular with kids of all ages. It's good for snacking, melting, or using in our recipe for Spinach Salad with strawberries and Farmers. Perfect for the spring season. Our Pheta is aged in a salt brine - a traditional method - and is saltier than the Farmers cheese. It has the rich flavor of our wonderful Jersey cows' milk and is great for salads, pasta, or Tabouli. Marinate it with olive oil and herbs for a spread on crusty bread.

We are getting into grilling season so pick up some ground beef or Spare Ribs to cook. Our beef is popular for the great flavor, and it's selling fast. Sausage comes from our whey fed pigs; we have Mild Country Breakfast mild country breakfast this week and should have our other flavors  next Saturday . The Breakfast is spiced with a little red pepper and a little sage for making patties for brunch or cooking with the fresh cabbage at market. We'll have samples and recipes to share. See you at the Market.
