At the 7th Buddings Kids' Toy & Clothing Swap on Nov. 22, we saw over 300 items of children's good quality clothing and gear find new homes. Their warmth, cuteness, and stimulation will delight new kids and families, certainly, but what also became clear, is how much more we have than we need.

We were thrilled when a Buddings family suggested donating the clothes leftover from the swap to the efforts to help land Syrian refugee families. And it got us thinking...

For our December celebrations program, starting next Tuesday (with Denet's fieldtrip to Aunt Leah's Tree Farm in Burnaby), we're looking for all the ways that we can explore winter traditions. It turns out that many of them are about helping others!

We do good deeds around the holidays, and even if there isn't a list-making elf watching, it's still the time to show appreciation for the people, and wealth, in our lives. This December, while you take the time to prepare special ways to show your love, we're planning a month of celebrations to keep kids busy, and secrets safe. :)

Whatever holidays you'll celebrate, we'll be wishing you the best of them, and through December, we'll explore them all!

December is all about Celebrations!

From Christmas to New Year's, Kwanzaa to Dongzhi, December is the time for families and friends to gather together!

This month, the Big Kids Club is making a special, month-long exploration of the celebrations that take place, and make this the most wonderful time of year.

It kicks off with Denet's Nature Club field trip on Dec. 1 - over to Aunt Leah's Tree Lot in Burnaby, where families can find sustainably-sourced trees for the season. We love that they've been raising money for  kids in foster care for over 20 years, and whichever one the kids pick out, the profits will go to help kids.

Those locally-loved trees are a great place to tuck in some locally made gifts, and we're also proud to be sponsoring the kids area at Portobello West Craft and Holiday Market this weekend. It runs both days, from 11am - 5pm, with almost 100 local artists and cute gift ideas. Admission is just $2 per person, and free for kids.
Kids Clothes Find New Homes, in new Canadian family homes

What a crowd we had at the clothing swap last weekend! There was a range of stuff, and styles for boys and girls. With 10 items free, and just $1 per item after that, everyone who came took as much as they wanted! It was a swapping success!

When one Buddings family let us know that her FACEBOOK group was collecting clothes for Syrian refugee families, wondering if we would pass along whatever was left, we were glad to acquiesce.

There was a mountain of clean, beautiful kids clothes, and the whole point of the event is to pass it along. It also served as a reminder to all the teachers at Buddings of just how many ways we can help.

As we start making our plans for how we'll take care of our loved ones, and make them feel special this season, we'll also be looking for ways to help our wider community.

To start, we're taking a tip from Crayons and Coffee Cups, and organizing our efforts with a kindness calendars for advent. You can get one, or create your own from their link. Happy smile-making!
Make a Date! We're Open til 8pm on Dec. 4!

With holiday planning getting underway, and parties piling up, Sarah and the teachers at Buddings are inviting families to take a night off!

Starting Friday, Dec. 4, we're pleased to introduce our new monthly feature - Date Night! We'll be open until 8pm!

You deserve a break, and when there's a special, kids-only spaghetti dinner and movie night happening at Buddings, Date Night is a special event for the whole family!

It launches Dec. 4, with a maximum of 8 spots available. To book your night off, email sarah@buddings.ca

Drop-in Daycare for Shop-ing Schedules :)

Forget shop til you drop! This holiday season, make a plan, and save your time for being together. Holiday drop-in daycare means spending the quality time together... and wrapping up the errands (and presents!!), in double time.

Decorating cookies and preparing meals are the magic moments you all want to share. Grocery shopping... is easier on your own.

Toddlers do love Toys R Us, but you can skip in and out in half... okay, a tenth of the time, if you book them into Buddings! We're open on Saturdays, too!

This month, we've got an amazing line-up of celebratory activities happening all week-long, and for the extra-special Saturday-care kids, musical presenters, baking classes, and more!

When you pick them up, kids will be full of stories and take-home surprises. And you'll have all the chores done already! Holidays are the best when you get to spend time with your family - but not at the mall. :)
