Students from West Kingston Elementary School show off their hats for the Matty Hatty Birthday Dance-a-thon.

From the Director

Dear Friends of The Matty Fund,

Spreading epilepsy awareness and supporting students living with epilepsy are important parts of what we do here at The Matty Fund. We are proud of the great progress we have made towards these goals by partnering with local schools.

More than 5,000 students from preschools, kindergartens and elementary schools across the region will participate in Matty Hatty Day this year. The Matty Fund hosts Matty Hatty Day to help children understand the challenges that their peers living with epilepsy face. The events are held annually around February 18, Matty Siravo's birthday.

On Matty Hatty Day, students read the book My Friend Matty, an educational children's book published by The Matty Fund that describes what living with epilepsy is like. Teachers facilitate a classroom discussion to highlight the importance of helping others and celebrating diversity. And schools host a Matty Hatty Birthday Dance-a-thon where kids put on their silliest hats and dance.

In other education related news, we are pleased to reopen the application process for the Matthew Siravo Memorial Scholarship. This award is open to graduating high school seniors living with epilepsy who plan to continue their education. Applications can be found on the scholarship page on our website and must be submitted by April 1. Please encourage students you know who fit this criteria to apply.

We're looking forward to seeing everyone this spring - don't forget to mark your calendar for Matty's Egg Hunt on March 28!
