Western Maine Art Group Exhibit
The Norway Historical Society and the Western Maine Art Group began a month-long exhibit of Art Treasures of the Norway Historical Society on June 5 at the Matolcsy Center, 480 Main Street, Norway. Norway has produced many notable artists, including some skilled and renowned professionals, such as Vivian Akers, George "Shavey" Noyes, Lee Bean, Duncan Slade, and Minnie Libby. This exhibit from the Society's collection features work of local artists from the late-nineteenth through the twentieth century. Many of these artists were (and are) well-known in Norway. This exhibit represents the continuity of a community's art for more than a century.

The exhibit is free to the public and is open Thursday through Saturday from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm through June. Please come by the Matolcsy Art Center!

Pies, Tea and History at the Norway Art Festival
Visit the Marigold Tea Room on July 11 when you go to the Norway Art Festival.  We'll have pie, a refreshing beverage served with a link to Norway's past.  Hosted by Society Trustee Marion Howe the Marigold Tea Room is a "can't miss" feature of this annual event.

Please let us know if you can provide a delicious pie for the Tea Room.

Assisting with Research
The Society was pleased to assist OHCHS Student McKayla Marois with research on the Town's great fire.  The Society is often asked to research events and family histories.
Connecting Norway's Rowe School students to local history
Here's local mining a nd gem expert Bruce Barrett beginning the tour of the Bumpus mine in Albany.  This has become a n annual  event. We also held sessions at the Society for students on the Civil War, CA Stephens and "Then & Now".
