NEWSWORTHY
Side Show Opens March 3
The upcoming production of Gallery Players’ 69 th season, Side Show, is a poignant and profound true story of Daisy and Violet Hilton, conjoined twins who found fame in early 20 th century American vaudeville circuits. A regional premiere, Side Show is the moving portrait of two women literally joined at the hip, whose extraordinary bond brought them fame but denied them love.

The show follows their progression from England to America, around the vaudeville circuit and ultimately to Hollywood on the eve of their appearance in the 1932 movie Freaks. Originally opening on Broadway in 1997, Side Show was nominated for four 1998 Tony Awards including Best Musical and Best Original Score. With a completely reworked plot and new songs, the 2014 revival version delves deeper into the backstory of the Hilton twins.
As the twins’ forge a relationship with Harry Houdini and face potential separation surgery, the book and lyrics by Bill Russell fleshes out characters and situations that endow Henry Krieger’s music with more sophistication and truth. Read more here .
New! Summer Hebrew Immersion Camp
The JCC Summer Camp is thrilled to announce a Hebrew language immersion camp experience, Kayitz Kef , as part of Camp Chaverim for campers K - 2nd grade. This camp will be the only one in central Ohio and one of just 13 other Jewish Summer camps in the United States offering this experience for campers.

Our JCC Day Camp has a proud history of interweaving Hebrew language into daily activities through the use of cheers, songs, and stories. Campers enrolled in Kayitz Kef will be grouped together, and spend their days interacting with counselors exclusively in Hebrew. Campers participate in a full camp schedule including sports, arts and crafts, swimming, and more. It’s a full JCC day, but in Hebrew!

The structure of the program allows campers to speak Hebrew naturally, by listening to and speaking with their counselors and peers. All aspects of the camp day are conducted solely in Hebrew from the very first day, giving the children an opportunity to gain proficiency as they participate in the myriad activities that make camp so magical!

The program, led by Ari Scheier, is geared to bring modern Israeli Hebrew to camp, emphasizing that the Hebrew language is alive, vibrant, cool, and can be combined with summer camp in a fun way. It’s a way to experience and identify with Jewish life in a rich, authentic, and real way by feeling a connection to Israel.

“Hebrew is our language,” JCC Camp Director Halle Schwartz said, “This language connects us to our history, ancestry, and foundation. It is an amazing opportunity for kids to not only learn a second language but to form this connection to Israel and our culture.”

For more information on enrolling, contact Halle Schwartz at [email protected] or the camp office at 614-559-6251.

Kayitz Kef / Hebrew At Camp is made possible through generous contributions from The Wexner Foundation, Leslie and Abigail Wexner, Chairmen, and from the Areivim Philanthropic Group.
