Centered On Success!

Awareness that happiness leads to success (not the other way around) is exploding into the mainstream like never before. This idea has been at the core of my coaching practice since its inception. I feel that the positive psychology research is finally catching up with me!

This issue of our newsletter points you to a few happiness-related trends and events. I hope you find it useful.
Happiness Goes Mainstream
Positive psychology drives business results. Our deepening understanding of neuroscience and how humans' brains work is transforming human potential and corporate results.

I'm pleased to share that I'll be supporting the World Happiness Summit this March as a " Trib e Facilitator." Organizers describe it not as a meeting, but rather as "a movement to increase awareness on happiness as a life choice, as a human right and as an enabler of human development and social innovation." I'm committed to my role as a driver of this movement focused on translating happiness to business results. I look forward to sharing with you the insights and best practices gleaned from these three days with those on the cutting edge of applied happiness research.
State of the American Workplace
Gallup's recently released 2017 State of the American Workplace , feels more emphatic than usual. The report is a clear call for executive leadership to change direction or suffer immense consequences. Among the findings:
  • 67% of employees are either not engaged or are actively disengaged
  • 51% are searching for jobs or watching for openings
  • Only 22% strongly agree that leadership has set clear direction
"Underlying all of this is an evolving employee attitude about what a job should and should not be. Most workers, many of whom are millennials, approach a role and a company with a highly defined set of expectations. They want their work to have meaning and purpose. They want to use their talents and strengths to do what they do best every day. They want to learn and develop. They want their job to fit their life." All of these are drivers of personal happiness.

Employee happiness in its many dimensions is the foundation of a thriving organization. It's not just a "nice to have." Companies with engaged employees have 41% lower absenteeism, 10% more satisfied customers, and 40% fewer quality defects. If you'd like to learn more about why h appy people sell more and make better leaders, we'd be happy (!) to explore your interest in a customized workshop or coaching program .

Do You Shine? Can You Glow?
Happiness is the joy you feel when you're aware that you are becoming your best self. It's a little higher-order state than just feeling good (which Positive Psychology researchers call "positive affect"). Feeling good is a great start to happiness, the way I see it. It seems to me like something shiny . For sure, shiny happiness is good, but it lives pretty much on the surface.
