We are asking all Village members to donate items that the family has requested. These items are available on a gift registry at Target. Please donate as many items are you are able by going to http://tgt.gifts/ChaiVillageLA and selecting the items you wish to donate. Please order items by 9/4 and ship them to Terry Pullan at 2630 Greenfield Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90064. A note from Michelle : “This show means a lot to me. It began as a little assignment, and then grew into a full fledged excavation into my past. I hope you will come help as I try to understand how to balance all the seemingly disparate sides of my Judaism through music, story and song. For some of you, it will include songs from your own histories. For others, it may help to uncover hidden fears, as it has shed light on the origins of my own as well.”

*This event is co-sponsored by Temple Emanuel and NewGround: A Muslim-Jewish Partnership for Change.

Have a great story and lessons learned to share with Temple Emanuel Religious School students? Come to a fun storytelling workshop to practice before you actually book a session with our storyteller/videographer, Carl Weintraub.

The storytelling workshop will encourage participants to get deep into their own stories. We will determine where stories begin, where stories end, and how we get from the beginning to the end. We will play with the description of characters. We will examine our preconceptions and how to incorporate the element of surprise and suspense into the telling of our stories.

This workshop will be led by Carl Weintraub. He founded We Tell Stories, a story-type theatre company that has been performing across America since 1981. Carl also co-produces and curates BackStory, a bi-monthly storytelling series at the Victory Theatre in Burbank.

Temple Isaiah is proud to be joining the National Alliance on Mental Illness’ (NAMI) Annual 5K Walk on October 7th at Grand Park in Downtown Los Angeles. Team Isaiah is being led by villagers Helene Korn and Ann Weinman, on behalf of Isaiah Women.  According to Helene, the event is “open to everyone - congregants of Temple Isaiah and ChaiVillageLA members.” Together, participants will help NAMI raise awareness of mental health issues and erase the stigma of seeking treatment.

The NAMIWalk is a family and pet friendly event with entertainment, drumming, food trucks, and more. You can also participate virtually. Temple Isaiah and ChaiVillageLA member, Shelley Hoffman, is Walk Manager for the NAMIWalk, which is the largest mental health advocacy event in Southern California.

Sukkot Lunches and Sukkah Building
Sunday, October 8, 2017, 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM
At a Sukkah near you!
Wouldn’t it be wonderful to celebrate Sukkot with family, friends and Village members? To make the holiday extra special, we’re teaming up with Jewish young adults from Moishe House.

Want to host people in your sukkah or be hosted by another Village member? We’d love to have as many people as possible participate in this meaningful and joyful holiday. To host or be hosted, please contact Susan Levine at (561) 309-4144 or [email protected]

Don’t have a sukkah and want help building one? Moishe House to the rescue!

Building a Sukkah is as Easy as 1 - 2 - 3!

  1. Contact Julie Grass at (310) 729-0215 or [email protected] and tell her you’d like to have a sukkah.
  2. We’ll provide you with plans for a 10’ x 10’ sukkah (easily seats 12). The cost of all the materials you will need to buy will be approximately $300.
  3. Friends from the Village and Moishe House will come to your home and help build your sukkah (and if needed, help you take it down). All you have to do is decorate and enjoy!

Special thanks to our very own Ralph Allen, a retired architect and the creator of our sukkah design! It is light, easy to store and something you will treasure year after year.

OUR MISSION
The vast majority of adults want to remain in their homes and neighborhoods as they get older, but sometimes this takes a supportive community. ChaiVillageLA is a vibrant, multi-synagogue, multi-generational community that enables congregants to age in place in their own homes by providing assistance to one another and enriching each other’s lives, as part of a self-governing village supported by Jewish values.
