Can you be a friendly visitor for Gloria Boraz? Gloria is recovering from a fall and misses seeing people during her usual busy social life. She would appreciate having visitors, preferably during a meal time. Other times are okay and you do not have to bring food for her as she has help. Temple Emanuel - Conference Room

Photographs are all around us, yet there is very little sense of visual literacy, particularly outside of artists' circles. This 4-part course, taught by Bill Aron, will teach us not only how to recognize the elements of an impactful photograph, but also how to make a photograph that is even more interesting than the object being photographed. We will apply these principles to photographing life around us.
Dates are: November 14, 21, 28 and December 5

“Almost 50 Village members gathered for a sukkot open house at our home to fulfill the three mitzvot connected to Sukkoth: to sit in a sukkah, to wave the lulav, and (this one is the most difficult!) to be joyful. Amidst plentiful food and drink, people shared one thought about what they wanted to do in the coming year to bring more joy into their life. And then we got to know each other through a human bingo game. Who knew that so many of our members spoke more than one language, have written a book, tutors or mentors a child or volunteers with a community organization? It was a terrific way to make connections and to remind ourselves of the extraordinary people who are part of our Village. That is indeed a source of joy!” -
Rabbi Laura Geller and Richard Siegel
“It was beautiful, delightful and the food was delicious. It was really a lovely evening.”
-
Connie Bennett, Membership Co-Chair (Temple Emanuel)
“It was a wonderful evening filled with chatter, laughter and a strong sense of community.”

Susan Levine, Member Engagement Chair

Isaiah Women and ChaiVillageLA joined efforts this weekend to raise money for NAMI. The theme of being stigma free was in the forefront of the many walkers’ signs and t-shirts. We are so proud of ChaiVillageLA member,
Shelley Hoffman
, who is the NAMIWALKS Director and
Ann Weinman
and
Helene Korn
, the Isaiah Women’s Social Action Chairs, who collaborated to form Team Isaiah. We raised over $1100 to continue bringing awareness and resources regarding mental health in Los Angeles county.

The vast majority of adults want to remain in their homes and neighborhoods as they get older, but sometimes this takes a supportive community. ChaiVillageLA is a vibrant, multi-synagogue, multi-generational community that enables congregants to age in place in their own homes by providing assistance to one another and enriching each other’s lives, as part of a self-governing village supported by Jewish values.
