OUR MISSION STATEMENT
The vast majority of Americans want to remain in their homes and neighborhoods as they get older, but sometimes this takes a supportive community. ChaiVillageLA is a multi-synagogue, multi-generational community that enables congregants to age in place in their own homes by providing assistance to one another and enriching each other’s lives as part of a self-governing village supported by Jewish values.

Intergenerational Programming with Moishe House!
by Susan Levine

Founded in 2006, Moishe House launched when four Jewish 20-somethings began hosting Shabbat dinners in Oakland, California for their friends and networks. Fueled by enormous demand for peer-led, home-based programming from young adults and their Jewish communities, Moishe House has become the global leader of Jewish life for young adults.

With 102 houses in 26 countries, the Moishe House model trains, supports and empowers young Jewish leaders as they create meaningful experiences in their local communities for themselves and their peers. Six of these houses are located in Los Angeles, and one of them is home to ChaiVillageLA’s first Communications Coordinator, Arielle Nissenblatt.

We understand that Moishe House and ChaiVillageLA are doing similar work, but serve opposite ends of the adult Jewish population. While Moishe House is working to build community among the 22 to 32 year-old population, ChaiVillageLA is building community amongst the older population. Because of the commonality of our goals, we have decided to work together. We will be doing joint programming and enjoying the opportunity to learn from and teach one another.

Please join in on this exciting approach to Jewish community and commitment. We are currently forming a committee to work with the Moishe Houses in our area. Among some of the ideas we have begun to explore are shared Shabbat dinners, learning about millennials, and fun Sukkot dinners. Moishe House participants have even offered to come to our homes and build a sukkah for those of us who want one!

Bring your ideas and energy and become a part of this cutting edge intergenerational project.  For more information on how to get involved or if you are interested in joining the committee, please contact Susan Levine at (561) 309-4144 or at [email protected].
JOB OPPORTUNITY
Temple Isaiah Religious School Office Position

Rabbi Zoë Klein of Temple Isaiah is looking for someone to work in the Religious School Office from 4:30 to 8:00 PM every Tuesday that school is in session. The job would include helping parents who have questions or need to take their child home early, receiving phone calls and deliveries, helping teachers locate supplies and being a kind presence for kids who have to be in the office who may not be feeling well, or who are acting out. Essentially, you would help hold the office-fort together while the religious school fills the temple with noise and activity. Very basic computer skills would be helpful for looking up room numbers.

Please email Rabbi Zoë at [email protected] if you are interested!
